Do I have sinus congestion? And if so, what is the best thing to take for it?!

Question: Do I have sinus congestion!? And if so, what is the best thing to take for it!?
I had a totally nasty head cold 10 days ago!. Then it seemed to go away!. But all of a sudden I felt as though I had a "plugged ear"!. Everything in that ear sounded like it was underwater!. Thinking it may have been a wax buildup, I tried to clear it out with some ear drops!. When I saw a doctor, he said that it was NOT a wax buildup, but rather a sinus issue - congestion!.

He put me on antibiotics to avoid infection and said that my body would re-absorb the sinus fluid in a while!.

Does that sound right to you!?

It certainly seems that way to me!. I am taking Dimetap, but its improving things very slowly!.

What should I be taking for this!?

Thanks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Your doc!. was correct in saying your body absorbs back the fluid!.!.!.go into a cold isle and check for something that relieves congestion most commonly Diphenhydramine hydrochloride or benadryl!.!.!.i am a fan of Tylenol or Advil cold and congestion day or night formula!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well I have sinus problems all the time the doctor told me to hold my breath and make my ears pop that helps push the extra fluid out and keeps it from staying!. Good Luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It could be hayfever!? I used to get al lot of sinus probs and blocked ears till I started taking regular meds!. Or perennial rhinitus if you get all year caused by allergies!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sinuses are a real pain to deal with!. Mine can hurt BADLY!. The problem with them is they can literally take months to heal and then come back again!. Antibiotics may not even work for them at times!. My doctor hesitates to even prescribe a med unless I am really bad!.

One thing that works really well is over-the-counter nose drops/saline drops!. NOT the medicated ones-they will make it worse!. You want to look for non-medicated sprays or drops, like the Ocean brand!. It will say that there are no meds in it!. Read the label!. You can get the store brand, sometimes it is cheaper!. They sell them in drugstores, department stores, supermarkets etc!.

Another thing that works is steaming your face in the shower!. Don't let the water get too hot, just nice and warm and let it hit your face!. Warm compresses help and they even sell sinus packs just for the nose!. I got one off of EBAY-the lady makes them homemade and you heat it in the microwave!. They are wonderful! You just lay them on your face and the moist heat is awesome!.

Drink lots of water and non-caffeinated drinks to keep your body hydrated!. I have heard that eating ice cream aggravates sinuses, but I don't know if that is true!.

You may also want to ask your doc for a precription allergy med, because allergies and sinuses can affect each other!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
