Boy is this ever my category!. Surgery cannot correct this!.

I too have had "dodgy knees" for years, I really was sure it was from falling down stairs years ago and my job!.

Three years ago they became very painful and were swollen to double normal size!. I had to ice them constantly!. taking two excedrin and two ibuprofen every four hours every day!.

Finally I got the hinged steel braces (not the stretch type) but the ones that velcro wrap above and below the knees!. They take your body weight off the joint !. Mine were corrected in about a month!.

Mine had been so bad I could stand and walk but could not do stairs or anthing that lifted my body weight from the knees!.
And while I could lose a few pounds it is not excessive!.
The pain was so bad that I had to use a raised toilet seat just to use the bathroom!.

The knee supports totally corrected that!. They still have a two or three percent problem!. But that is nothing!. Icing is really manditory to help with the inflammation and swelling as is the Ibuprofen!. It really helps with the swelling and heat!.

The Rheumatologist determined I had AUTO IMMUNE DISORDER!. That just means you can have RA, osteoarthritis, Fibromyalgia, lupus and I think Crohns and maybe chronic fatigue syndrome!. This is when your body turns on it's self and attachs joints and or tissues!. Interestingly if I get sick with a cold or anything simple all pain stops and I am just sick with that!. Then when My body is well it goes back into its normal painful mode!. Weird, Huh!?

Sadly enough!. No they are not cureable!. Most of the medication for me have done nothing or made me much worse!. I have a friend that has been on Sulfasalazine for twenty five years and kept her Crohns in check!. But I took it for seven months and got much sicker!. They do come in flares and them sometimes remission!. But can then again return!.

For just the knees I would strongly recommend the Ibuprofen every four hours for the swelling and inflammation plus the icing!. For being up and around get the knee braces, you want to be sure to get the hinged ones to take you weight off of the knee joint!. They were amazing for me!.

The pain started off with my knees and were sure it was RA, but in the end it is now in my muscles, tissues and tendons!.
It is Fybromyalgia!. I have now been on Vicodin for 3+ years!.

It did help quiet the pain when I eliminated artifical sweeteners from my diet (my Husband is diabetic) so I was getting some!. Especially ASPARTAME!. The pain is apparently an alergic reaction to it!.

God Bless and Good Luck!. Be really careful with the excessive excedrin it can damage your liver and gall bladder if in excesse!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Depends what is meant by "rheumatism", it is a loose term meaning nothing medical, often used to describe non specific aches and pains!. Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease and is not particularly common!. Surgery would be unlikely to be needed!. The blood tests should be an indication!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i am not a doctor but surely there will be something which can be done especially if it worsens,or starts becoming to much of a problem for you, probalies depending on the severity,i hope you dont have any problems, and it doesnt come to that,i wish you well,peAce!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
