Broken Ankle...One year Later and Still in Pain?!

Question: Broken Ankle!.!.!.One year Later and Still in Pain!?
I broke my ankle almost a year ago, a hairline fracture of my fibula!. The way I broke it, also caused a very nasty sprain!. I didn't have surgery or a cast, just a walking boot for eight weeks!. I was in a wheel chair the entire eight weeks!. I was unable to put weight on it even with the boot, due to the pain!. After the boot came off, I had five weeks of physical therapy, but still had pain!. Went to another doctor, had a MRI done!. I was told that it STILL was a bad sprain!. Now, almost a year later from the original injury, I still have pain when walking on it for long distances!. I'm frustrated!. Nothing I do helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Find a pain specialist that does prolotherapy injections- not cortisone!. It will help heal the injured ligaments and tendons giving them a scar tissue band aid that strengthens it and gives you that stability back!. Once you overstretch the ligaments they almost never go back to the same stability and strength!. You might also need some myofascial work done to release restrictions, especially from being in a boot so long with no movement! If you still have pain walking long distances- STOP!. You are only aggravating it!. Swim or bike instead!. If you have to walk then get a walking stick or cane to take the pressure off that ankle - walk with it on the opposite side- it really will help the pain and help you heal!. Not walking long distances will help you heal even faster!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had almost the same thing!. I broke, sprained, and tore ligaments in my ankle over a year ago, and I still occasionally get pain in it!. I just put a heating pad on it, or take some asprin!. It's likely that there will always be pain after a break, especially during cold/rainy weather, best ways to get thru it is with a heating pad and OTC pain meds!.

Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should not be walking long distances while you're having problems!. I had a very very bad sprain that wasn't healing!. I had been keeping it elevated and icing it for over 2 wks!. Then I saw a second dr!. and he said to keep it up another 2 wks!. and then put an air cast on it!. I did and wore it until I felt I didn't need it anymore (which was quite some time)!. It made a firm believer out of me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
