What can I do about a really bad throat infection?!
Question: What can I do about a really bad throat infection!?
Somebody please help me i have been to the the doctor and she prescribed amoxicillin and i have to take it every 8 hours but its not helping as a matter of fact it has spread to the other side i am in terrible pain i cant eat drink or even swallow my spit without crying!. day and night i have to keep getting up just to spit because i cant swallow anything!. I am in terrible pain please if you know anything that may help please help me cause i can take it any more!. Thank YouWww@Answer-Health@Com

I am assuming that you had a throat culture that was positive for strep!. How long have you been on the amoxicillin!? Give it a couple of days to work!. If it has been longer than that, you need to return to your doctor!. The strep may not be sensitive to the amoxicillin and you will need an antibiotic from a different class of drugs, such as erythromycin or a macrolide antibiotic (Zithromax)!.
If you did not have a positive strep culture and were prescribed antibiotics because the doctor suspected strep, then the infection may be viral instead of bacterial!. You still need to call your doctor and let them know that you are getting worse!. He or she will want to look at your throat for an abscess or other complications!. Your doctor may also be able to prescribe some pain medication for you!.
If you find you are having trouble breathing or can not physically swallow anything (not just because it hurts), then you need to go to the emergency room immediately!.
In the meantime, try gargling with some warm salt water!. You may also want to try some throat drops or a throat spray for very temporary relief!. Take some ibuprofen to help with inflammation and pain!. I know it hurts, but you do need to try to drink liquids!. You will feel a lot worse if you become dehydrated!. keep on the antibiotics, cut the pills in half if you need to, or crush them and put them in a drink, the infection will be worse and last longer if you dont take them!.
ice chips will help!. there are also herbal cough drops that you can get that are supposed to be really great!.
also, see if your doctor can prescribe you Tessalon Perles, it is a little, round gelcap type of cough suppressant that works great!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I just had one of those take some cough drops, you might need to take a penicillin ( a shot in the butt ) to feel better like i had to take one they say it doesn't hurt but the needle is huge try not to cry cuz it hurts ALOT!. i hope this helps oh and maybe some TylenolWww@Answer-Health@Com
