Why are legs amputated below the knee?!

Question: Why are legs amputated below the knee!?
Why aren't legs amputated above the ankle!?
This occurred to me yesterday, I'm guessing theres a reason i just cant figure it!.
You always see people with their leg amputated at the hip, above the knee and below the knee but never the ankle!?
And, yes I don't have much to think about on a daily basis lolWww@Answer-Health@Com

This is just my guess but I would think that it would be harder for prosthetics to go on/support your body!. BTW im assuming that by "occured" you mean you just thought of that and not that it happend to you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

People are amputated though the tibia just above the ankel!. And there are people who still have their ankle!.

Above knee- AK
Below knee- BK
Are just general terms to group amputees!. above the knee can mean anything from at the hip right to just above the knee!. Although for hip amputations it's usually called through the hip or hip disartic!.

below knee means anything from right after the knee to right to the ankle!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Do you mean why do they call it "below the knee" rather than "above the ankle!?"

I think that reflects a positive mind set, focusing on what you have left!. We don't want to call it "above the ankle [that you don't have, anymore]!."

Keep thinking deep thoughts!. It will save you in life!. "Hmm, none of the natives want to pet the cute, furry little bunny!. I wonder why!?"Www@Answer-Health@Com

It all just depends on the reason for the amputation!. Some causes are infection, poor circulation!.!.!.!.so it just depends on the part of the limb that is affectedWww@Answer-Health@Com
