Question: RSD and 'Pain Pump' Information!?
Has anyone ever heard of RSD!. The doctors said my mom might have it!. They want to put a 'pain pump' in!. Does anyone have any information that might help!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

RSD = Reflexive sympathetic dystrophy!. Simply put, it's when the autonomic system (the fight/flight response system) goes haywire and increases autonomic responses including a spill-over of signals to other types of nerves!.
No one knows for certain how or why RSD occurs!. Apparently there is some pre-existing damage to the autonomic system and when the person has some trauma to an area, that trauma may be the final straw that broke the camel's back, causing RSD!.
Pain pump is a portable pump containing pain killers which has a tube connected to the blood vessels so that it can continually pump medication at certain times to control the pain!.
As for solution, there isn't a lot that modern medicine can do to correct this problem except pain killers to manage the chronic pain!. There is one method I'm aware of that helps to correct RSD!. I refer my patients to a chiropractor who's trained in the Gonstead method, they're very effective in locating and correcting problems with the nervous system!.

If that doesn't work, your mother may wish to consider acupuncture for pain control!. Reserve the pain pump for last resort because over time, the body gets used to the pain medication and you need to increase the dosage to manage the pain level!. Pain pumps are usually not very effective in controlling pain associated with RSD/CRPS!. What other treatments have been tried to control the RSD/CRPS!? A pain pump is usually the very last resort after everything has been tried!. A spinal cord stimulator and other treatments are often times more effective than a pain pump!.
