Why is medicine so specialize now then in the past when it was more general like!

Question: Why is medicine so specialize now then in the past when it was more general like surgery still is!?
Answers:
There are a number of reasons!. First, the amount of knowledge that we have is much greater than what we had, even in the middle of thie century!. Thus, doctors specialize so that they can concentrate their studies on the diseases that interest them!. Ask yourself: "Would you like a GP to treat your cancer!? Would you like a General Surgeon to do your heart bypass or brain surgery!?

Second, we still have doctors who are generalists!. They are called GP's of Family Practitioners!. They are interested in providing health care to the majority of their patients, and to refer when specialty care is needed!.

Third, the sad fact is that medical education is very expensive!. Certain specialties are compensated (paid) better than others!. Some doctors go into these specialties for financial reasons!. They need to pay back their loans, or they have married and have to support their families!. They don't have the five to ten years it often takes to build up a good primary care practice!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Because a whole lotta things have been discovered!.
In the past times nothing was known about genetics (i think DNA was discovered somewhere around 1944) and now this is a very exploited domain, about immunology, the ultrastructure of different cells and the molecular mechanisms, and very little about microbiology!. The list could go on!.
So humanity is just getting to understand the way living things work!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
