X-ray question?!
Question: X-ray question!?
My 12yo hurt his foot Friday!. Took him to the DR (we live in a small town so there aren't many medical facilities here) and they did an Xray!. Dr said he did not see any breaks on the picture but wanted to make sure by emailing it to an xray specialist (sorry don't know terminology) who could make sure there was not a buckle fracture!. Now for the question!.!.!. he emailed the xray to a specialist in AUSTRIALIA! why!? It just seems crazy!.!.!. there has to be someone in the USA that can do that!. Anyone know!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm surprised that they sent it that far, but I understand that they sent it out!. I work in a hospital and we send our CT's out to a service hours away, and I know that a nearby hospital sends theirs to California!. ( We are in Florida) It just depends on what service of radiologists they use!. Maybe Australian rads are cheaper ;)Www@Answer-Health@Com
Billing maybe, I mean he wanted a consult so he sent it to a guy who is really good at reading x-rays, (Radiologist) who happened to be in Australia!. That is crazy if you ask me, I mean any radiologist worth anything should be able to look and read an x-ray of a kids leg!. Look as long as you don't have to pay for the reading I wouldn't worry about it to much!. I'm sure he is fine also any doctor just about can read an x-ray and see if something is broke!. Maybe he saw something interesting and this guy is doing a study so he sent it to him!. I wouldn't worry to much your son sounds like he's OK!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Docs consult with colleagues that they know and trust!. It could be that his colleague is in Australia because of former or current relationship like med school, former teacher, former partner !.!.!. any number of reasons!.
If your doc trusts this person then it doesn't really matter where they are in the world!.
Remember this person could be in Australia or for a short while!.
BTW I am from Australia and can assure you that the standard of medical care is at least as good as the US - just a lot cheaper!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It could be about costs or contracts, such as a health consortium that saves costs by outsourcing!.!.!. Or he could have a friend who is a radiologist or orthopedist and is better suited to reading such a film (x-ray)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
