I am not sure that you have sciatica!. Where does the pain go!? Is the pain located all in the back of the thigh!? If the pain is located at the back of the thigh then you do not have a true sciatica!. The problems is that when you tear a hamstring there is also the possibility of injuring the nerve as it runs along with it!. The therapy should be on centering the pelvis into a neutral position!. That will entail strengthening the muscles that make up the core, not just the abdominals!. Correcting any imbalances that are present in the glueteals, hamstrings, hip flexors, and calf muscles!. If the sciatica is from a bulge then all of the aforementioned plus specific work on disc stabilization!. If it is solely a hamstring injury it can take up to nine months before it is completely healed so don't rush it!. Try this stretch and see if it doesn't help!. Lie on your back either on the floor or on a bed!. Keep your knees straight and make the front of the feet move up towards your knees!. There will be a slight stretching in the calves!. Hold that for ten and then relax!. Do that about five times before getting out of bed and before going to sleep!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I busted both bursitas sacks on my butt bones (lost alot of weight!.!.no padding) and my sciatica and my hamstring cramps up real bad!.!.!.and is so painful as you know!.
I use alot of ice packs even driving and sleeping to reduce the inflamation my physical therapy is doing!.!.!.nothing!. I do my stretches and Ice!.!.!.
I am allergic to all pain meds due to the opiates!.!.I have learned when the pain gets real bad I do my lamaze breathing!.!.it really helps!. This has been going on since Thanksgiving 2007 and I finally found a Dr 6 weeks ago who knew what this RARE condition was!. I have had 3 back surgeries and 4 hip and others starting at the age of 12, I am now 54!.!.
Physical therapy has been 5 weeks now!.!.!.and I am not going again!. I could do a cortisone shot but in the last 5 yrs I have had 7 shots and that is crap in the body and is not really good doing it alot!. But it works if the Dr gets the LONG needle in the right place!.!.

I did acupunture and it worked within a month!. I have no $$$ right now for that but some medical insurances pay!.

Go to a chiropractor!. Something's pinching your nerves & the Doc will coax the little suckersback into position!. Be warned - you'll actually feel worse after the first couple of adjustments because your body is used to being in the wrong position!. After a couple visits, you'll feel much better!.

I now do yoga a few times a week & my sciatica hasn't recurred!. I highly recommend it!. Low impact stuff, walking, helps too!. Make sure you wear decent sneakers!.

Also - the last time I had back spasms, my sweetie (who's had back surgery) told me to take 2 Ibuprofens every 4 hours!. I did it and the pain was gone in less than 2 days!. Something the muscle relaxers my doctor gave me couldn't do!.

Good luck!. Back pain is a b*tch!Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is not a lot that can speed up your recovery as sciatica is pain due to damage/pressure on a nerve!. Try a chiropractor or acupuncture to help with the pain!. Take things slowly and avoid anything that causes too much pain!. Hope you feel better soon!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
