Question: Anesthesia question!?
hi! i will be going for surgery tomorrow!.!.!.to get rid of this cyst under my scalp!.!.!.!.!.so i have some questions i hope you can answer ^^
1!. how does it feel like when getting an injection of anesthesia!? does it feel like getting a flu shot!? or like hepititis shot!? does it hurt!?
2!. can local anesthesia be used if i have a huge cyst!?
3!. will anesthesia affect memory!? i will write a test on this thursday :S

It's hard to answer your question because there are different levels of anesthesia!
LOCAL anesthesia is simply numbness!. You would be fully awake during the procedure!.
LOCAL-PLUS anesthesia is numbness PLUS something to make you drowsy and relaxed !.!.!. usually Valium !.!.!. you won't be completely "OUT" (unconscious) during the procedure, but you will be far enough out that you won't feel or remember much if anything!.
GENERAL anesthesia is a carefully-controlled unconsciousness!. It is used for surgery that is invasive or would be very stressful, painful or just too long to perform under the other 2 types!. With general anesthesia, you will feel nothing, and will remember nothing whatsoever about the procedure!.
If you're having a local anesthetic, yes, it feels like a shot !.!.!. it's a quick pinch!.
With local-plus, you will probably either be given an injection of the relaxant (a pinch) first, and then the numbing agent (which you won't feel) !.!.!. OR !.!.!. you will be given a relaxant by intravenous (IV) hookup and then numbed!.
With general anesthesia, you will be hooked up to an IV and will be given a relaxant !.!.!. and then you will be put completely under just before surgery!. The surgical team would put a mask over your face and tell you to count backwards from 10 !.!.!. and you'd get to 9 !.!.!. and then you'd be waking up in recovery!
In any case, don't be afraid!. You'll be given enough of whatever anesthetic is appropriate that you will feel NO pain!. Anesthesia does not usually affect memory EXCEPT for the event of surgery itself!. You may later have trouble remembering the few minutes before surgery, and perhaps an hour or so after surgery!. Not 2 long ago I had major surgery on my abdomen due 2 intestinal problems and I was worried 2 let me explain in steps what happens & how it feels!.
1st - Usually they place a breathing mask over your face!. They flow air which makes U numb all over like you can't feel your body!. Around this time juz try 2 go 2 sleep!.
2nd - They start putting pads on you to monitor your heart & stuff like that
3nd - They give a shot that really does knock U out by then!.
4th - When your out and wake up it won't even feel like a second has gone by!. & when U do wake up U won't feel nothing cuz they will drug U up!.
That's basically it & your done!. Don't worry, as long as U have a good doctor you'll make it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
