Husband said to ice it regularly for 24 hours to minimise swelling, then heat packs after that to increase circulation and aid healing!.

Edit, do not imobilize!. I added that bit myself, husband just corrected me, said "Hell no, use it or lose it"!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Rest, but do not immobilize!. Do not use Ice any longer than immediately after the injury!. Gentle massage in the area working from the tendons outward in small circles!. There are some good herbal soaks that are specific for this injury!. I am at work now so I can't look them up; for now Tiger balm with massage will help and is readily available!. Stop by a GNC or other health supplement store and get a tube of Arnica flora gel to put on during the day!. It is not greasy or smelly and helps promote rapid healing of micro tears in muscles!. This has been used for millennia!. I find it helps with deep bruising as well!.
Keep your eye out for swelling!. Sometimes injuries to the elbow will swell a day later!. Don't be to alarmed unless pain and stiffness gets worse!. Than see your medical professional!.
Sorry for your injury!. Get well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Do what the others are telling you , but also give it plenty of time !. Once you injure a joint it weakens it and you will need to favor it!. I have done it many times growing up and still have small problems with my joints that I hurt!. Just too much stress at once on them!. Peter, I have taken a product called "Flex Now" It is a new product from the Shea Nut!. It is an oil and it relieves inflammation!. Guaranteed or your money back after 30 days if you don't notice it helping the pain!. It is suppose to help even joint problems for people with joint stiffness!. Complete relief or your money back and it's from www!.flexnow!.us if you want to read up on it!. I don't know if you can get it there but it works for me!. Never keep ice on more than 5-7 minutes and never heat the joint til the swelling is down or if starts to feel better!. Believe me, I know all about this crap;) Feel better soon Peter!. And remember to keep it moving gently so it doesn't go stiff on you!. I wish I could do more but your too far away for me to get you the Shea product and drop it off, so I can't say have your people call my people and we'll do lunch!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
