Bucket-handle meniscus surgery?!

Question: Bucket-handle meniscus surgery!?
so i had ACL/ meniscus surgery in 2006 and just recently i re-tore my meniscus!. My surgeon said that my meniscus is folded over like a bucket handle, which is really painfull!.!.i am using crutches right now!.!.!.

we just got the results from my MRI!.!. and i am supposed to have surgery next week or the following week!. (for some reason im more nervous for this surgery than i was for the first one!.!.)

the thing is, my surgeon told me today that the recovery time will be about 4 MONTHS (until i can play sports again)!.
i know people who have had this surgery and were told the recovery time was 4 weeks!.!. so im a little confused and frustrated!. i know it depends on the procedure of the surgery used and other factors, but that seems like a really long time!.

my surgeon is not positive about what needs to be done to the meniscus at this time, (he wants to cut open my leg first!.!.)

Please help if you have any information!!!
*im 15 and very active in sportsWww@Answer-Health@Com

My daughter has had that exact same surgery!. Twice!. Once on each knee!. The first one done was an open surgery, the latest one was done through a scope!. Also, a bucket handle tear cannot heal on its own!.

The first surgery was done about 11 yrs ago!. Healed perfectly, and is as good as new!. No further problems!.

The second surgery was around a year ago!. Unfortunately this latest surgery has not healed, and she has to go back in for more surgery in a couple of weeks!.

Your Dr is right on with the time frame!. When my daughter had the surgery, it was done as a day surgery!. When I picked her up at the hospital she had on a G11 knee brace!. Basically it's hinged at the knee with a locking device (to keep your knee from bending) Hers was locked at 30 degrees!. Every 2 weeks it got turned to allow her knee to bend more!. She was non weight bearing for around 8 weeks, and then allowed to partial weight bear after that!. She also did physio starting right after the surgery!. She was off work for 12 weeks!.
The reason the recovery is so long, is the meniscus has a very poor blood supply!. Just listen to your Dr, and do exactly as he says!. You really don't want to have the meniscus removed at your age, as this causes osteo-arthritis years down the road!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Get a second opinion, and do it quickly!. Some doctors like to operate, even when there are alternatives!. I would see another orthopedic surgeon, and see what he recommends!. Then pick the doctor you are most comfortable with!. I am assuming he wants to repair the meniscus, which does take about 6 weeks to heal, and you are on crutches for 6 weeks, he may let you start putting a little weight on it at about 4 weeks, but it depends on what happens during surgery!. But it still takes a few months to be completely healed and pain free!. Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com
