Why discard the first sample in a 24-hr urine collection?!

Question: Why discard the first sample in a 24-hr urine collection!?
I'm being tested for traces of blood (protein) and creatinine in my urine!. I've had UTI a few times before, and the doctor wants to be sure this isn't something more serious involving my kidneys!.

I need to know why I can't use the first sample!. What everyone considers the first sample is the first time a person needs to pee right after they wake up in the morning!.

However, I keep odd hours because of my jobs, and sometimes, I'm forced not to sleep at all!. So when would my first sample be!? Am I going to have to force myself to sleep for 4-6 hours just to wake up and waste my first go!?

I had to take a day off from work, as it's very hard for my job place to accept my needing to pee into a plastic jug and keep it in the fridge!. So I'm taking care of this at home!.

Thanks in advance!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

To put it simply, the freshest urine rises to the top of the bladder, if you doctor wants to get the freshest results, he needs the newest pee!.

Sleep doesn't have a massive impact on when the sample occurs, it's more time and when you drink!.

Freshest time would be to pee twice (not drinking after the first one) and use the third sample, however if there is a kney issue, it should show up in all the samples!.

Good luck, hope your kidney's are kidney-riffic!Www@Answer-Health@Com

The first sample in the morning will have the larger number of microorganisms in it!. These microorganisms can alter the results!. By discarding it and then starting the test you reduce the number that will grow in the urine while running the test!. By discarding the first voiding you get a more accurate test result in the end!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
