Can a doctor really do anything for lower back pain?!

Question: Can a doctor really do anything for lower back pain!?
I'm having some bad lower back pain!. I was in a car accident about three weeks ago!. Some teenagers pulled out in front of me and I broadsided them hard!. They took off--hit and run thing so I went home and left it at that!. My lower back is bothering me somthing awful!. I'm not sure if it is from that or not!. It hurt that day and a couple of days later but seemed to go away, now everytime I sit down and try to stand I have to take my time because it really hurts!. I have a 1 yr old and it really hurts to pick him up!. It's not a kidney infection, I know the signs and symptoms, it's definitely muscle related and on my right side more than my left!. I have been taking 800 mg Ibuprofen that my doc prescribes for my RA but it has done nothing for the pain!. Heating pad at night isn't helping either!. I don't really have the time to go to the doctor if all he is going to do is prescribe more pain meds!. Is there anything he can really do!? Insurance coverage isn't an issue!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
NO!. He/she will most likely give you harmful, addictive pills to mask your pain!. Find a quality Massage Therapist trained in Deep Tissue, Myofascial, and or Neuromuscular Therapy!. Also, if you can find a GOOD, reputable chiropractor in conjunction with the massage!. Finally, start doing yoga or some kind of fitness routine that has a strong focus on core strength!. Make sure you tell the teacher about your accident!. Good LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com

I was in a car accident several years ago and had moderate back pain!. I finally went to the chiropractor and got an adjustment!. It worked for a while, but I do have to go back because the pain returns!. You may also have an inflamed disc in your back which a doctor can give you an anti-inflammatory to help!. Good Luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You may want to call anyway, to get an xray to make sure that nothing bad happened, like a slipped disk!. But your doctor can also call in muscle relaxers, which should help!. Other then that I would say, can you see a chiropractor!? That may help too!.

All the best, I hope you feel better!Www@Answer-Health@Com

You have to MAKE time, CARVE OUT A PIECE in which to take care of yourself before things get worse!.
An MD can Xray & give pain killers, maybe have you go to physical therapy (if you're lucky)!.
Save yourself more grief, see a chiropractor!Www@Answer-Health@Com

doctors cant really do much - you need to go to a chiropractor or osteopath who are specifically trained in back and neck conditions!. well worth the time and money!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I hurt my back taking a shoe off of all things and did have to go to the doctor!.

My doctor prescribed me a progressive dose of steroids for the swelling, and vicadin (sp) for the pain -- good stuff!!

After 7 days I was no longer on the steroids!.!.!.!.!. but still took the pain pills!. That was last October!. My back still twinges some!.!.!.

I would suggest to get the swelling down go ahead and go to the doctor, but after the pain subsides some, do some torso twists, and little crunches (as much as you can stand) because in order to strengthen your back, you have to have a toned tummy and I think they're called obliques (the side muscles)!.

He should be called, and I hope you called the police about the hit and run!. You should not be libel for all the pain and suffering you have been through this past time period!. You have a baby to think about, and the best way to care for the baby is to care for yourself, mommy!. I know that is difficult, but you do need to make sure you did not get something dislodged or cracked or worse!.

I wish you the bestWww@Answer-Health@Com

I totally understand!. I hate going to doctors!. It is a 'hurry up and wait' thing!. You have to get there on time, and than you wait and wait, sometimes for hours!. With a baby and things to do, that is ALOT, if they aren't going to acutally be able to help! I would suggest seeing a chiopracter!. Sounds like you put something out in there from the impact!. A doctor giving meds won't help, it will just medicate the problem!. A doctor may ex-ray it, so if you want, you can go that route!. I would consider chiopracter though, they will be able to adjust things for you after the impact!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I was in a car accident a few years ago, so I know how you are feeling!. I had back pain and whiplash!.

You should have been referred to a physical therapist, they will help with your back pain!.

(I was referred to a Chiropractor and personally I hated it)

If you insurance covers it, I would recommend getting a referral to a massage therapist! They will help loosen up your muscles!. My car insurance covered that treatment for me (not my health insurance), not sure if you are going thru car insurance though!.

I know it's hard to get to the doctors with a toddler, but you have to get yourself better or it will just get worse!.

Hope you are feeling better soon!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would definitely go to the doctor!. He might order physical therapy and that will help alot!. I go to an osteopathic medical doctor and he does spinal manipulation!. I have found that ultra sound treatment on the muscles involved speeds up the healing!. Some people benefit by seeing a chiropractor!. I see a naprapath, put you will usually only find them in IL, IN, and NM!. I have degenerate disc disease and I have chronic back and neck pain!. I have really benefited from the Physical
Therapy and Deep tissue massage with manipulation!. Good Luck!. If you start having pain down your leg or back hip area, do not delay seeing a doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
