So I got a shot given into my hip today..?!

Question: So I got a shot given into my hip today!.!.!?
The reason why was because I got stung by a wasp on wednesday, and by thursday the area surrounding my knee doubled in size and turned fire engine red, and it continued to spread over my leg!. I went to the doctor today!. She said I had cellulitis, and gave me a shot of Rocephin in my hip along with Bactrim and some Singulair chewables (because I dont like how benedryl makes me sleepy)!. Thankfully I came in today, if not she said it would have gone septic and i would have to go to the E!.R!.

What I want to know is!. Why are some shots given in the hip and or buttocks area!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
there's 3 ways to give injections - IM, IV, or SC
IM is intra muscular and is usually given in the biggest available muscle - Ie bum or thigh, but shoulder ok!. The bigger the muscle the better and usually easier access!.
IV is intra venous (veins) and they usually use an arm vein because of convenience and ease
Sc is sub cutaneous (under the skin) and can pretty much go anywhere, but often done in fatty areas like the stomachWww@Answer-Health@Com

well!. i thought it's up to the health professional where do they like!. Obvisouly your one is called IM injection!. Some old professional people may think that's the best to give at your hip as there's a lot of muscle and less nerve or blood vessel!. But giving it through upper thigh and upper arm is doing the same function actuallyl!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

they know where to give them and why why didn't you ask them its because of what they are treating and septic shock is not good and you sure don't want that sometimes its harder to get rid of take care!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Some medications need to get deep into the muscle or fat, so they can't give it in the arm because it can't go deep enough!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
