If it totally snapped in two then be prepared to spend alot of time off of it!. I had a co worker who snapped his femur in 2 and had a rod inserted (don't know if you do or not) But you need to take it real easy for awhile!. If you try to do too much too soon it will take longer to heal!. Every one is different of how long they take to heal!. My friend tried to do too much too soon and it took him almost 10 months because it never healed correctly!. He now has a permanent limp so I can't stress enough to stay off of it!. Once you go in for your follow up appt with your dr!. he/she can tell you how the healing process is going!. Then don't forget more than likely you'll need physical therapy once it's close to being healed!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I can answer your question!. My son broke his femur about 4" down from his hip!. Average is 3 months for the bone to heal, and another 3 months of physiotherapy!. Those people who said 6 weeks, have obviously never broken their femur!. Most bones, like your wrist or fibula heal in 6 weeks!. Not a femur!. Also non-unions in the long leg bones ( femur & tibia) are quite common!. My son had complications, had 6 surgeries, and didn't completely heal for 3 years!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The femur is a BIG bone!. It will take a good amount of time - at least six to eight weeks; if you're over 60, then the time will be increased!.

DON'T stress it by putting too much weight on it until your doctor says it's ok!. If she/he wants you to gradually put weight on it, be sure to do so, as this stimulates bone growth!. Likewise, if any physical therapy has been ordered, DON'T skimp on it!.

This is NOT a trivial sort of break, so follow his/her instructions carefully and very consistently!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The femur is one of the biggest bones in the body and has a very leage blood supply! It's gona b long n painful im afraid! At least 8-10 weeks, possibly more! But dont expect to b able 2 have completely normal usage of ur leg by then--u wil proberably need intense physio and a little longer for it to heal completely!!!!

dont worry tho-it will heal in time!

i wish you well and get better soon!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I broke mine when I was 7 and was in hospital for 2 months!. It took me another month to walk again, and another year before I could walk without a limp!.
I would imagine it would be longer, the older you get!.
Sorry to say that, but it's a major bone!.
Good luck on your recovery xWww@Answer-Health@Com

That is a tricky part to heal and is tough - but is a common area to break!. It depends on how well it heals!. I would say bare minimum 8 weeks though!.

In complicated cases you are looking at an artificial hip having to be put in!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

About 6 weeks for the bone to knit unless your are old then it can take months!.

But you will take a long time to recover mobility even after the break heals!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

8 to 10 weeksWww@Answer-Health@Com
