I was fused when I was 13, summer before freshman year!.

You'll have lifting restrictions for about 6 mo!. No more than 10 pounds or a gallon of milk!. I only carried the books I needed for each class, and went to my locker between each class to change them out!. My scholl was small (500 students) so this was pretty easy to do!. If you are at a larger school and can't do this, check to see if they can accomodate you!.!.!.give you more time to go between classes, store your books with the teacher in each room, etc!.

At the end of the day, I pulled my books I was taking home on small luggage cart!. It was collapsible and stowed in my locker during the day!. This was hard, just because some kids teased me about it!. You'd think with a small school and most of us knowing each other since we were 6 we'd have been nicer to each other!. If you get any teasing, just keep in mind why you are going through this!. You need a healthy spine!

Crowded hall ways and jostling didn't bother me!. Try negotiating a crowded store on a big sale day before hand to see how you do!.

Standing, I never had long periods of standing in highschool!? When will you be standing!? If it's for a class, again see if they'll accomodate you!.!.!.i!.e!. a chair to sit in, rearrange to order of classes you take (I stayed out of PE for two years until I wasn't in a brace of cast anymore)!.

Hope some of this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I hope your surgery goes well, it will be a long and enduring process, but worth it in the end!. I don't have scoliosis, but I am a nurse, so have seen the surgery only one time in my career, and this little gal was up out of bed the day after surgery!. Its not that its painful, it is, but the other benefits, like being able to take a deep breath again will make it all worth while!.

To answer you question, you may enlist the help of friends, or get a rolling back pack!. You have not mentioned the restrictions you will be on after surgery!. No lifting, pushing, pulling of more than 5-10 pounds, no bending, twisting, stooping etc!.!.!.That is my guess!. Ask your doctor for ideas on how to do it!. Good luck and speedy recovery!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've never had the surgery (and I'm not really answering your question!.!.!.)

but!.!.that surgery is extremely violent on your body!. Who recommended it to you!?

Have you tried a chiropractor!?

I had an S shaped curve in my spine, diagnosed when I was 14!. MD recommended that I don't have the surgery (where they put the rods on the outer sides of your spine) because of how brutal the process is!.

I started going to a Chiropractor, then the low back pain started, but about a year later x-rays showed I had straightened out quite a bit!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
