Please help with my shin pain!?!

Question: Please help with my shin pain!!?
Please help me!. I have been told by quite a few doctors i have shin splints, but they said to carry on, so i did!. (i had rested for a couple of months but when i got back it was the same)

I went to see and orthapaedic surgeon who wanted to know whether it was bone or muscular pain and i said it always hurt around the bone so he took an x-ray and it showed nothing!.

He also found out i have "knock knees"/overpronation!. He said he would send me a letter so i could visit a man who is specalised in Orthotics!.

It still hasnt come after around 2 and a half weeks!.

Yesterday, i went for a training session and i iced it as usual!. When i got back, i put ice on my shins as usual and then these red, raised bumps have appeared on the inside of my shin and are painful to touch!. Could it be a blood clot or something!? Please help and if you would like a picture i will try to put one on!.

Also, i cannot afford to pay for any expensive treatment as i am 13 and my mum doesnt ear much!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ah yes, shin splints!. This is a common complaint, particularly in younger persons such as yourself, especially where there is a sustained amount of training going on!. The problem is though that while some people do believe that 'shin splints' is a diagnosis, there are an increasing number of people in the medical world who believe that 'shin splints' is merely a sympton of some other underlying condition!.

Typically, shin splints are caused by overworking the muscles in the lower leg, particularly through running, more so if you are running on a hard surface eg road, track which will cause jarring!. The key to overcoming the pain is rest, perhaps even prolonged rest!. It seems that you do take out periods of rest but the pain returns when you take up running again!. This is an indication (note: only an indication) of some other underlying probelm!.

Therefore, while I would say that knock knees is unlikely to have any influence on your case you do need to take some advice and see the guy in Orthotics!. The waiting time may be long (2 weeks is relatively short) but it will be well worth it!.

I wish you all of the very best with this!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Damn I remember having shin splints after football freshman year, that sucked sooo bad! I feel for you, the only way I made them better was kind of crazy but, I took a bath in completely cold water, I cranked the bathtub to as cold as it gets, let it get at least shin level and just soaked in it for a while then got out and rested, try your best not to run on hard surfaces like cement, grass is fine however!.!.!. but yeah best of luck to youWww@Answer-Health@Com

The bumps might be frozen blood cells from icing too long or putting the ice right on your skin!.

Here are some thins you can do to help your shin splints:
-Stretch your calves: You need to stretch themfor about 90 seconds each before your sports!. Make sure to stretch both the upper and lower calf (the lower can be stretched by bending your knee in a calf stretch)
-Orthotics!. Fallen arches can really lead to shin pain!. If you cannot affor custom ones, try even a drugstore insole with added arch support!. These cost about 10-15 dollars and may help
-massage: One of the best ways to stop your shin pain is to massage your calves and the area along your shin bone!. If you cannot afford to go see a massage therapist, do ti yourself or ask a friend!.
-Shoes: running in old shoes is very hard on your shins and joints!. New trainers can be costly but sometimes you can get last year's colours for half the price!. Keep your eyes out for sales and if you are training every day for circa 2 hours, you need new shoes at least every six months!.
-try to alternate between heat and ice for those shins!. and take some ibuprofin to help with the pain!.
-If they get really bad, see a doctor to make sure that you don't have stress fractures!.
-If you can't run on them, swim or ride a bike while you do your rehab to keep up your fitness!.

Good luck, I hope you heal up soon!Www@Answer-Health@Com
