Question: I suddenly got a pain under my left ribs, I dont know why it happened, any ideas of the cause!?
I don't think i hit it on anything, it just suddenly started hurting!. If someone could list what it could be that would be great, not expecting to get the exact cause found out, I expect it could be many things, so a list of things would be great, perhaps note which are likely and unlikely!. Also, is it likely to be serious or just a random thing that happens and it will get better quickly and all is fine!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Every chest pain should be taken always very seriously!. I'll try to list you how much I remember from my vast experience as a 40 years nurse!.But first,let's exclude 4 killer causes!.
1}Ischemic heart disease!.Mother's my husband lived with this until 99 years old!.The pain begins in the central chest, radiates to the left side and arm, neck, even teeth!.
2} Pulmonary embolism!. Just in seconds appears dyspnea and strong chest pain!.
3} Pneumothorax!.Emergency situation!. Just in seconds appears dyspnea and terrible chest pain!. I saw a child 11 years old how die in my hands just in less than a hour!.
4} Ruptured aortic aneurysm!. Sudden chest pain which radiates inter scapular region!.
Uh! Ah! Oh!
Now ,we can discuss more calm other causes of chest pain especially in the left side!.
Pericarditis pain increases with inspiration!.
Pleuritis pain also increases with inspiration!.
Respiratory infections,viral infections, fungal infections, the pain is linked to the breathe!.
Herpes Zoster, Spasm of the Spleen,Fibromyalgia, Osteoporosis yet some examples!.
There is a positional pain that goes more comfortable by sleeping on one side more than the other!.
Spondylosis of cervical vertebrae that affects the nerves, the pain starts from neck down to the ribs!.
Exists also a hysterical pain in the chest based on emotional pain!.
There are gastrointestinal causes to chest pain but in this case the pain radiates toward epigastrium!.
I keep in the final what is very frequent cause of chest pain, COSTOCHONDRITIS ,a pain which I have from time to time and I also think you have!. It happens to me when I have excesively physical activity or even I sit into incorrect position!.
This pain is very strong as a result of inflammation of the cartilage that joins the rib with chest bone { Sternum}!. Most pain is felt in the left side but can radiate outwards!. Often it may be associate with fibromyalgia and I think 50 % of people have this suffering!.
