Answers:
I've had both hips replaced in separate surgeries and I can tell you right now that 7 hours in a car at 3 weeks is NOT something I could have done!. I was 59 at the time!. I predict that if he does this, he risks being terribly uncomfortable!. You are aware, I assume, that he may not be approved to drive at 3 weeks!. In my case, I had trouble even riding short distances in a car at 3 weeks because my muscles were so weak that I had to hold my legs when the car went around a corner to keep them from flopping back and forth and violating the restriction I was given to avoid letting my operated leg move (or "flop") past the center of my body; my muscles weren't yet strong enough to keep my leg straight!. My remedy was to squeeze a pillow between my knees when I rode in a car!. Typically THR patients are approved to drive at about 5-6 weeks!. That was the case for me!. At 3 months I undertook a 900-mile trip over 2 days and I couldn't wait for it to be over!. We stopped every 1-2 hours so I could get out and walk around for a few minutes!. I ended up lying down in the back seat as that was the only way I could get comfortable!.

If he does decide to do this (and he should consult with his surgeon before he does) his driver should plan to stop every hour so he can get out of the car and walk around!. He should also wear his TED hose if he has them!. If he is still on an anti-coagulant such as warfarin which needs weekly blood draws, he needs to have a plan for continuing the lab work while he's away from home!. Also, have him do ankle pumps frequently while sitting in the car and continue with his PT exercises wherever he is!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

His surgery can be changed to your hometown!.
Or the delivery can be changed to his hometown!.
You only have the three weeks to "make the change!."
But you never put a hip replacement patient, in a car,
for a 7 hour drive!. To much chance for a "blod clot!."
Check with his doctor for his "advice!." and Congrat's!. <}:-})Www@Answer-Health@Com

I honestly do not know!. It all depends on how long it will take to heal up!. And if it is strong enough to be sitting on for that long!. I would guess no, that he wont be able to come and see the birth of your baby!. But I dont really know!. Ask his doctor, and what he has to say!. He would know!. Well I wish you the best of luck!.

(Maybe you can buy a camcorder and record the birth, or if you cant afford to buy one then rent one for a week!. At least you'll get the birth and babys first week on a DVD!. We just bough a DVD camcorder on sale!. $299!.00 good luck, i am due any day!)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would say that it's doubtful!. It is really easy for hips to dislocate after being put in!. Not only that but the strain of getting in and out of a vehicle, would be a really easy way to pull it out!. In addition it may be uncomfortable to be couped up in the car for that long!. It's not fun putting those hips back in place either!Www@Answer-Health@Com

definately not!. he will be stiff and hurt a lot!. no way he can not ride in a car that long!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It depends on how he feels, my father in law took quite a while to recover + he was really honery too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Why would you even want him to!? He can come when he is well so give him a chance!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
