A doctor's opinion please? Strange sleepless behaviors...?!

Question: A doctor's opinion please!? Strange sleepless behaviors!.!.!.!?
My boyfriend of 6 years has always had a very difficult time sleeping!. I sleep like a rock, so I rarely notice the strange things that happen to him, but on rare occasions when I can't sleep, I'm so puzzled by him! He constantly complains that he didn't sleep well!. He'll go for 3-4 days without sleeping well, then have one night when he's so exhausted he sleeps insanely hard and wakes up feeling really out of it!. When he can't sleep, his nights seem to go something like this: he passes out almost immediately when he first gets into bed!. About 5 minutes later, he will sit straight up in bed and it's like his body woke him up, because he LOOKS like he's still half asleep!. Usually he'll go downstairs, then come back!. He's up and down all night!. Sleeps for a few minutes, then he's awake!. The other thing is that he says his legs feel tingly and twitchy and he will jerk and move for a second, stop, then do it again about 18 seconds later on the dot!. This will go on for a while!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I sometimes have this in the evening!. But I think I am a rather mild case!. Sitting in the train, parties, movies, theaters!. Situations where it is really bothersome or socially challenging to get up with itching, twitching and even somewhat jerking legs!.
It feels as if my muscles are deteriorating!. I always thought for me it has to do with not exercising enough!. When I am regularly exercising my legs, I don't seem to get it that often!. It helps me to massage the legs!.

What you seem to describe is restless leg syndrome (below)

Restless Leg Syndrome - it s real! My boyfriend has it too and no prior drug use - it could be unrelated!. He feels like he has to move his legs and they actually start to twitch!
