Should the doctor have told his parents he was sucidal or judt take a chance it !

Question: Should the doctor have told his parents he was sucidal or judt take a chance it was bravado!?
Answers:
Absolutely not!. He is over the age of 16 and therefore legally has competence!.

Telling the parents in this situation would have been illegal and smash the very foundations of patient confidentiality!. The doctor possibly have been struck off as a result!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The parents were aware that he had talked of suicide!. This is a very sad case!. No one can be to blame, not even the doctor!. In situations like this it is natural to look for someone to point the finger at, however to do so would be very unjust!. If fingers are to pointed then they should be all round!. Some people cannot cope with life and chose suicide as an option!. Unfortunalty it leaves families broken hearted and guilt ridden!.
The doctor has a duty of care to maintain patient confidentiality, he did what he could, he is only human and i am sure is suffering enough without having it chucked at him that he could have prevented it - if thats the case then the family could have prevented it aswell!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I believe so and I think they should be hospitalized immediately!.

The reason I say this is because if my daughter were in the same situation, and if it ever happens I hope I am able to see it ahead of time, I would want to know!. I would want the doctor to put her on medication or hospitalize her!. Better safe than sorry!. I totally understand in certain situations that doctor/patient confidentiality is a must, but in a circumstance when a life can be saved, I think something should be done!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

His parents already had concerns, the private chat with the Dr should not have been shared & I don't think it would have made a difference!. The lad obviously did not cause the Dr enough concern to try & section him!. It was not anyones fault although I understand people do look for someone to blame at times like this!. It was just tragic!. We need to create an environment where there is no shame in mental health & where young people can express themselves, boys shouldn't feel that they have to be tough!. I lost my older brother to suicide & it is still very hard to understand & to know if I could have done more!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Confidentiality is an absolute must!. Of course it's sad and the parents will be inconsolable!. But trust is everything and doctor's shouldn't be breaking anyone's trust!. So no I don't agree the doctor's should have said anything to anyone!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I believe you answered your own question!.!.!."just [taking] a chance" is rather risky!. I'd much rather be overly cautious then see the kid in a morgue the next day!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

He should have told the parents that he was having suicidal tendencies, so they could give him some treatment!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
