Question: White patches on my leg since birth!?
I've had white patches on my leg that did not cross my knee caps!. They do not cause irritation, they grew in number initially but after that they became permanent!. I dont like them as they make my leg look bad!. Please help!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This sounds similar to vitiligo!. My mother has it, and she has patches like that!. She's got a less serious version of it!. Michael Jackson has a more severe version!. What it is is that the white patches are where you don't have any skin pigment!. Have you ever cut or scraped your legs and found the color never comes back!? That could be why, because you don't have the pigment to recolor the spot!.
What you need to do is talk to your doctor!. Let him/her know that it's a concern of yours, and he/she may be able to give you a better second opinion (because obviously I'm not there to check it out and compare to my experience with those I know who have it)!. It isn't a painful disorder, and is actually just more of a social pain than anything!.
In the mean time, put on sunscreen whenever you go out!. No skin pigment means that you're more likely to burn, which means more likely to get skin cancer!. If you're super careful, you should be fine!. If it bugs you, I heard that the sunless tanning solution has become a big hit for those with vitiligo!. It dyes the skin, helping it to blend a little more with the rest of the pigmented skin!.
