It really depends on the kind of pain you are experiencing!. Are you having the usual kind of pain that comes from overworking muscles that aren't used to it, like when you work out and get really sore the next day!? Or is it different!?
Chances are you have very tight hamstrings, and it is best to NOT do yoga to the point of pain!. Yoga is about gaining awareness and learning to listen to our bodies!. If something in yoga really hurts when you do it, then it is not good to force it!. Back gently out until it does not hurt, and do the pose only to the point that it does not cause pain!. You will still gain the benefit!.
As for your tight hamstrings, it can be damaging if you lock your knees in forward bends!. Some yoga instructors may tell you to lock the knees, but they are finding that this can cause injury in people with tight hamstrings!. The best thing to do is micro bend your knees to relieve strain on the hamstrings and knees!. Eventually your hamstrings will loosen up and become more flexible, but in the meantime, take it easy and take care of them!.
Also, you may have very tight psoas!. This is a large muscle that goes from the spine into the pelvis and its primary function is to help lift the leg when the body is fixed, or lift the body when the leg is fixed, as in a sit up!. It is a part of a group of muscles called the hip flexors!. You can injure the psoas as well if it is tight and you strain too much into a pose, so listen carefully to your body!. Be patient, do your poses only to the point of challenge and never pain, and give your body time to heal if you fear you have injured it!.
Back to if the pain is normal muscle pain from challenging the muscles - yes, you can go ahead and stretch them more, or do as I do and let them have some rest for a few days if they are extremely sore!. The pain is caused by tiny tears that happened during your exercise, and it is the healing of these tiny tears that build our muscles!. Sometimes we over do it, and need to give the muscles a rest!. Listen to your body, you'll know when it's okay to work them again!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should never strain out your muscles to far!. Pain is a sign that it is working!. But, you shouldn't do it constantly!. You should always rest!. I would recommend trying every other day!. Then gradually work it to everyday!. This way your body can get used to it and it won't be as painful! =)Www@Answer-Health@Com

you should stretch your legs out before doing yoga!. It might hurt for awhile, then you will get used to the painWww@Answer-Health@Com
