Taking motrin for pain?!
Question: Taking motrin for pain!?
I'm going to the doctor tomorrow for some painful swelling in the side of my throat that has been going on for a couple of days!. It looks and feels like an infection and it hurts a lot!. Following the advice of my aunt in California who is a doctor, I've been taking small doses of Motrin!. But my mom only gives me half a tablet and it doesn't help a lot!. Am I big enough for a full dose!? I'm 13 and I weigh about 95 pounds!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Adults and children 12 years and older Take 1 caplet or tablet every 4 to 6 hours while symptoms persist
If pain or fever does not respond to 1 caplet or tablet, 2 may be used
Do not exceed 6 caplets or tablets in 24 hours, unless directed by a doctor

It does also say "The smallest effective dose should be used!." Maybe it would be better to take a whole one, but don't take them even every 4-6 hours, try every 8 hrs!. I would ask your aunt again!. It's not doing much good if it's not helping the pain!. The risk in pain relievers for people your age is Reye's Syndrome--but that's why aspirin shouldn't be given, but Tylenol or Motrin instead!.

Absolutely! Just drink plenty of fluids with it!. It may even be more affective for you to take one motrin and one tylenol!. Rather than the two motrin!. It seems to work better with pain, fever, and swelling!. This is what I do for my 10 and 13 yr!. old son when they are not feeling well or injured!. Generally, the bottle will tell you it is okay too in your age/weight group!. It is just taking too many doses that you need to watch out for!. But if you are going to the doctor tomorrow there should not be any big concern!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
yes you can take a hole tablet it will help you,you will be fine,and as for ur aunt she told u the right thing u can always go to her,dont listen to other strangers telling u not to go to her,im sure she cares for u,and wont hurt u,

One tablet should be okay, but!.!.!.!.I'd still have mom call the doctor just to double check!.
In the meantime, gargle with warm water mixed with 1/4 tsp salt a few times a day (it helps alleviate pain and swelling through the process of osmosis) Popsicles will also help with the pain!.
