Answers:
YES! The same thing happens to my sister!. Now of course I'm not medically certified or have any other personal knowledge of you to be able to directly state your diagnosis!.!.!.This said however, knowing what my sister describes to me and what I have studied in school:

1) This is an actual condition that other people also experience!. It is likely to be a sleep condition or disorder called Sleep Paralysis!. It could also be a mix of Sleep Apnea and Sleep Paralysis!.

2) It is quite scary and occurs at random times!. During sleep there are several sleep stages that we go through, such as REM which I'm sure you've heard of!. Conditions like sleep paralysis works like this: The body normally does become paralyzed during sleep, it is a natural process during the sleep cycle that happens with everybody!. Something triggers you to mentally wakeup, but the sleep part of your brain hasn't turned on it's signals so to speak to trigger the physical body to wakeup yet!. This would explain why you say you could not move or scream!. The breathing issue does sound a lot like sleep apnea though, which is why I suggested you could possibly have a mix!.

3) If you are tested to determine the specific condition, you'll probably be asked to do a sleep test where you sleep overnight at a hospital or other special facility!. After doing the normal history taking, doing primary physical tests, you get hooked up to a machine that measures body stuff!. Also, if this is sleep related, there's not much that an ER will be able to do!.

If you do feel like you need to go to the ER, please do so, especially if any changes occur, start feeling unusual pain, if you blackout or have a seizure!.

Helpful Suggestions:
1) Write down details you can remember about the event, what happened during, the length of time involved, how you felt physically/emotionally
2) Speak to your doctor about it, then you'll have it recorded in your medical history if needed in the future!.
3) Ask your doctor for more information about it, suggestions that might help!.!.!.sometimes people use Melatonin to help regulate and maintain sleep patterns, but speak with your doc about it first before purchasing it!. (I'm not sure what your normal sleep patterns are like, any problems normally!?)

Take care & sweet dreams! :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Holy crap, that is scary!. My friend has something like that happen to her where she wakes up and is choking and can't breath!. No idea what that is!. Go to the doctor to be sure there is not a physical problem!. Good luck, hope you can find out the cause!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds like some sort of sleep apnea!. After it is over do you have cinus drainage!? Either way you should probably go to a doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Don't freak, but this is possibly an epileptic seizure, Get to an ER stat!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

That sounds pretty serious!. you REALLY should got to the doctor and get checked out!Www@Answer-Health@Com

That is definitely sleep apnea, a sleeping disorder where you temporarily cease breathing during your sleep!. Usually this goes unnoticed but apparently you had the misfortune of waking up in the middle of an episode!. There are three types of sleep apnea, yours sounds like "obstructive sleep apnea", the most common, in which airflow is physically blocked despite effort to breath, as opposed to central, in which airflow is blocked without the ability to attempt breathing!. It can be the cause of fatigue and other noticeable daytime problems!. It is not too dangerous, other than a 30% higher risk of heart attack, and can be helped by sleeping on an incline, or avoiding alcohol and drugs!. If it happens too often see a doctor who can suggest ways of reliving the problem!. In severe cases you can have surgery to widen your tracea (windpipe) and strengthen the tissue!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
