I need some help/suggestions on how to fix a messed up sleeping pattern?!

Question: I need some help/suggestions on how to fix a messed up sleeping pattern!?
Each day, I stay up later and later, and wake up later and later!. Currently, I go to sleep around 2:30 am and I wake up around 1:00 pm!. Part of the reason why I think I sleep in this late is because I already wake up late, and in the day I have a 2-3 hour nap daily (In the day I get so tired, but at night it's like i'm nocturnal)!. How do I fix this!? It's getting worse everday i started out going to bed at 11, then it was 12, then it's 12:30 then 1:00 and etc!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A visit to the doctor would be a good idea!. There are lots of Qs on here about sleep issues, and while I don't know everything about it, I do know a lot, and I see some really objectively wrong $hit being offered on here as answers!. So ultimately check w/ your doctor, and use some of the posts here for interesting tidbits of discussion with him/her!.

Teens have been found to need a lot of sleep, because teens are in such a major physical and mental development stage!. It's also been found that teens tend to do better when they sleep later!. I'm not saying your pattern isn't messed up, but there might be some of it that's natural for this stage of your life, some of it that's just bad habit!.

Establishing a healthy sleep pattern for life and maintaining it will take self-discipline!. It's very very easy to stay up late on the computer, watching tv & movies, reading, etc!., and very hard to stay disciplined about sleep!. But it's important, and I think you know that, just by your question!.

I worked rotating shifts (7 a!.m!. - 7 p!.m!., 7 p!.m!. -7 a!.m!.) twenty years ago and I'm still having trouble with my sleep patterns!. What helped me is absolutely no naps (it's hard, I know, but only for awhile) and exercise in the afternoons!.

What do you do when you are awake at night!? Is it too interesting to stop!? I'll stay awake to read a whole book if it's good!. Is there something bothering you!? When I made some big changes in my life, my sleep got better!. When my son started sleeping through the night, I slept better, but I'll bet you don't have that prob!.

When I put a routine into my bedtime, like doing a bit of meditation before, I slept better!. Meditation calms my over-active mind, which is what keeps me awake!. Is your house too noisy!? Try a fan on high speed to drown the noise and foam ear plugs!. Is your room too light!? Try putting up something to block the light from your window (I used to use recycled cardboard boxes taped to my window, but my room was on the back of the house so my mom didn't freak too much!.) Try sitting in your room with the lights dimmed for an hour or more before bed!. I don't think there is anything medically wrong, because you are getting the amount of sleep a teenager needs, when you finally do sleep!.

Do you have a reason to get up in the morning!? That helps alot, too!. You are probably on summer break now, so is it so bad to sleep weird hours!? Closer to school starting, you will need to change, though!.

As you can tell, I've made a science out of my sleep problems!. Sometimes, worrying about not sleeping makes you not sleep! Is it any wonder!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had the same problem! The only thing I can tell you is to start going to bed 15 minutes earlier every!.!.!.night, er!.!.!.morning, lol!. and wake up 15 minutes ealier until you're at a good bedtime/waking up time!. It will take sometime, but if you keep it up you'll get into a good routine!. Its going to be hard to get out of bed some mornings, but just force yourself, try turning on a really upbeat song, or the moment you set feet on the ground head to the washroom and splash cold water on your face!.!.!. And whatever you do RESIST THE NAP! its evil!. It will throw all your hard work out the window if you nap!. I hope this helps you!Www@Answer-Health@Com
