Why does my knee crack every time I bend it?!

Question: Why does my knee crack every time I bend it!?
I was in the pool yesterday and noticed that my left knee cracked every time I bent it, in or out of the water!. My right knee, however, cracks about one out of every five times I bend it!.
I have hyper-extended both of my knees in years past, and I have patellar tendinitis in my right knee!. Because I have injured both knees so much, I have been researching the muscles and functions in or around the area!.
Just the other day, I stepped awkwardly and felt pain in my LCL for hours, even into the next day!. When I was jumping off of the diving board just yesterday, I felt a sharp pain in my LCL, and the started to bend it to try and stretch it out, but then noticed my joint popping every time I bent it!. This has continued into today, and no lie, it is every time I bend it!.
By the way, i am 16 years old, so this is not because of old age!. What do you think I should do!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

As a 16 year old, you are undoubtedly continuing to grow, and this sometimes causes annoying problems at the knee area!. Everyone's patella (knee cap) needs to glide smoothly along the front of the knee joint (where the femur and tibia meet) in a groove created by the femur (bone above the knee)!. Sometimes, through lack of muscle balance and/or flexibility of the muscles surrounding the knee joint, the knee cap glides on the edges of the groove in the femur!. This problem can go by a couple terms: Patellofemoral Syndrome, Patellar Maltracking!.
The clicking may be due to this mal tracking because as you bend, you are creating much greater forces on your knee cap and eventually it "clicks" back into the correct spot!. I'm not saying that it is dislocating, just not in the best spot!.
This can ultimately lead to problems like your patellar tendonitis and issues like Chondromalacia Patella (you can look all of these up on line)!. Also, since this problem can be due to overall weakness in certain areas, this causes overall joint instability which may explain your sudden sharp pain!.
If you feel that your knee keeps "locking" or "giving out" along with sharp pain, you might want your doctor to take a look as there could be a possible meniscal tear (look up "meniscus" in the knee)!. Right now, if you are in pain I would suggest rest and icing and see what happens!. Good luck and hope everything works out!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Keep your joints from hyperextending!.

The popping may just be synoidal fluid being moved around!.

Read "Dr!. Scott's Knee Book"!. It is a great resource for knee issues!. Oh, and he has a really good chapter on the differences between male and female knees!. I always assume anatomy was pretty much the same for both until I read his book!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Honestly, you should make a Dr!. appointment and see what the Doctor has to say about it!. It's probably nothing to worry about (my ankle has been doing the same thing for the past 10 years or so) but then again, you never know!.!.!.

Go get it checked out! Especially since you're into sports!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
