Can I refuse Pre-operative "sedation" if I'm having General Anesth!

Question: Can I refuse Pre-operative "sedation" if I'm having General Anesthesia for surgery!?
I'd like to be lucid and awake when I meet the medical staff that will be operating on me and NOT be in "LaLaLand!." and as odd as it sounds, I DO WANT to remember what happens to me!. (Amnesiacs give me the creeps!.!.!.!.I don't see any logical use for them for medical procedures unless the patient requests them!. I don't go for the euphemisisms like "oh it's just something to relax you" or "don't worry, you won't remember a thing!." Well SOME of us actually DO want to remember, care about, and want to know what's going on with our healthcare!.!.!.!.it's called being an Informed Consumer Patient!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
