The x-ray may have been normal but it will not show any problems that are happening with the muscles!. You didn't state what you do for recreation or sports!. It is possible that you injured it a while back but it was not enough to cause the problems you have now!. Continued use of the hips maybe causing the problem!. Usually with swelling of the hip there is some form of trauma!. It is possible that you could have a trochanteric bursitis!. That would account for the swelling and pain on the side of the hip and no trauma!. This would be from lying on one side constantly when you sleep!. I don't know what they did in therapy but there are many ways to decrease the swelling and improve mobility!. Have another shot at therapy and talk to them about what you are feeling!. Point to the exact spot where you are feeling the pain and discribe the pain in as much detail as possible!. You might need something as simple as some ultrasound treatments or stretching to decrease the problem!. Have them check your leg lengths as this could also be a problem that could lead to pain!. Have them watch you walk to see if there is anything that is going on at the foot, ankle, and knee levels that could be creating abnormal stress at the hip!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
