Not that uncommon!. One of the joints of the vertebrae some times moves in a way that was unexpected and the capsule surrounding it get pinched!. It swells causing immense pain and dysfunction!. Use ice at the back of the neck for fifteen to twenty minutes each hour!. If you can get to a pharmacy get a soft cervical collar and wear it to bed!. This will give you support when you sleep!. Don't make it a habit to use during the day but if the neck becomes painful and tired use it for short periods to give it a rest!. If you cannot get to a pharmacy take a hand towel and fold it in thirds length wise and wrap it around the neck!. Make it snug but not too tight!. Secure with a safety pin!. Only turn your neck to the non-painful side!. With time the neck will start to be able to rotate in either direction!. To help it move every hour turn away form the pain and stretch it by bringing the chin to the chest!. Another stretch is to place your hand into a fist and place it under your chin and lean forward and place a very gentle pressure on the back of your head!. This will stretch the muscles in the back of the neck!. Also if you have a rolling pin place this under your neck when you can lie on the floor or try it in bed!. This will support your neck and hopefully get it to relax!. If you can lie on your stomach in bed hang your head over the edge of the bed!. This will act as a traction and should take some of the pressure off the area!. If none of this helps see your doctor and ask for a referral to physical therapy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Could be only a pulled muscle!. Are you running a fever!? Do you have a headache!? If so, these are symptoms are meningitis!.
If not, put heat on your neck and take a couple of Tylenol/Advil/Aleve and see if this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I go to a Chinese chiropractor (I live in LA) and he can take of it in one session unlike an American one who managed to take a year!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
