Answers:
If you don't have swelling, redness, heat, or pain, you probably aren't infected!.

How to care for a navel piercing:

1!. Soak the piercing in 1/2 teaspoon sea-salt (you can get it at any grocery store) in 8 ounces of warm water!. Do this 3x a day for 15 minutes!.
2!. Use an antimicrobial soap such as Provon http://www!.bodymattersgold!.com/a_images/!.!.!. on the piercing daily!. I don't recommend antibacterial soaps; they can contain dyes, alcohol, and perfumes!.
3!. Only use stainless steel!. You may be allergic to jewelry that contains nickel, which can cause a reaction like yours!.
4!. Never use the following:
Peroxide, rubbing alcohol, antiseptics: they damage the tissues!.
Antibacterial ointment: this makes the piercing "heal" around the jewelry!.
5!. Avoid baths, hot tubs, and lakes!. They can contain bacteria!.
6!. Don't play with the jewelry!.
7!. Navel piercings can take up to a year to completely "toughen"!. Six to nine months is a good healing time estimation!.
8!. Despite the best care, some navel piercings will migrate out of your body as your body rejects them!.

You may not have done anything wrong! I work with teenagers and have seen many navel piercings fail despite being well cared for!. Follow the above steps and return to your piercer if you have more questions!. Your piercer is usually your best resource for questions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
