Answers:
with discoloration, do not put any ice on it!.!. esp blue because that could be a sign of lack of oxygen!.!. especialy when its at the tip of the fingers!.!.!.!. thats classic as well as lack of circulation of oxygen!.!.!.

now why you would have this is the big question!.!.!.!. the fact that it is painful sounds serious!.!.

it could be that you have a nerve impingement further up in your hand in the areas that control your first finger and thumb!.!. like the abductor pollis or something like that!.!.!.!. capal tunnel!.!.!. and other similar hand injuries can cause discoloration and the severe pain can come from nerve impingenement!. the injuiry could be further down in the arm or wrist but the pain felt in the thumb because of how pain travels along the nerve!.!.!.!.

again, ice and heat could be helpful or an irritant when it comes to nerve pain, impingement or something like that!. If its something like capral tunnel, ice can help but with discloroation of the hand, ice isn't a good idea because that could really be ciculatory and that would only make things harder!.!.!.

the fact that the pain is severe and consistent really seems to yell Go to the Doctor!! Really, go get this checked out!. It sounds like you need to see a doctor and let them figure out whats going in!. They will examine the area, maybe do an x- ray, maybe due a EMG of the area depending if they think its a nerve injury issue or not!.

Anyways best of fortune!

Go to your regular primary doctor first and they can do basic test!. They will likely send you to a orthopedist, sometimes one that specializes in the hand!. Once in awhile they might send you to a neurologist but more likely than not, they will send you to a ortho if they feel this is a orthopedic issue they cannot handlle!.

In terms of treatment for now, probably keeping it warm might help like try wearing a glove and see if it helps!. Maybe try ice like the other poster said!.!.!. but i do nt know abnout that!. If the pain gets worse!.!.!.!. def quit!. Open and close your hands to try and help the circulation if that is the problem but most importantly, make that appointment as soon as possible!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You need to get to a doctor!. Anytime there is discoloration in an area there is no oxygen which our entire body needs!.
If the pain is severe and you are not near a doctor, try icing it to numb the pain, then put heat to circulate the blood in that area and try massaging your hand/thumb/fingers with your other hand to get the circulation going!.
Try putting ice to ease the pain for about ten minutes, then switch to heat to circulate the area!.
You may have an injury to the thumb like a break or sprain!.
Go to a regular doctor first so they can get some xrays and go from there!.
Better to be safe than sorry and still in pain!.
Good luck!. I wish you wellness soon!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
