I have had my share of problems with sleep. I cant sleep and I lay in bed for ho!


Question: I have had my share of problems with sleep!. I cant sleep and I lay in bed for hours!. what can i do!?
I occasionally have been taking stuff to make me sleepy, but want to stop cause I HATE taking something to go to sleep!. Any sugestions!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I too hate taking medication but really struggle with insomnia!. My problem is that I can't shut my brain off!. Occassionally I will take an Advil PM which I am ok with and typically really helps me!. Valerian root (which comes in capsules and in a tea) is an all natural and very effective sleep aid which I've used in the past (warning: the tea is very smelly) My newest thing lately, however, are books on tape!. I get them at the library and start a disc when I am ready for bed!. It gives my brain something to focus on so my mind doesn't wander and keep me awake thinking about everything in the world - I usually fall asleep within half an hour and when that cd is done, it stops so there is no risk of the noise waking me up later on!. I'm not following the books at all, but that does not matter to me!.!.!.I find that I just need the talking to listen to!. If I were too interested in what I was hearing it probably would not work!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Kristy H,it is wise to stop taking chemicals to go to sleep!.Go to your local Library and find a book on "Self Hypnosis"!.Don't be afraid,it merely allows you to take control of your mind,relaxe,meditate and peacefully go to sleep when you tell yourself to!.It will not hurt you,basiclly read the instructions and "Go To Sleep"!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Have a regular sleeping and waking up pattern!. Do not do anything too stimulating during the last hour before you sleep as you want to start winding down!. Do not snack or have your dinner late and clear your bladder just before you sleep!. Clear your mind of things that are bothering you - just think of blanks, sort of like emptying your mind!. Make sure your room is dark, quiet and cool!. I normally get to sleep within 5 to 10 minutes after getting into bed cos I consciously put all thoughts out of my head!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
