Unable to work because loved one is ill?!

Question: Unable to work because loved one is ill!?
My fiancee has been bedridden for the past 6months because she has diabetic pressure wounds and is normally a paraplegic but since she cannot sit because of the wounds, she is in a special hospital bed and needs 24/7 care that I have been providing for her!. I told the hospital, the nursing home, the nurses and her specialists that I will give her 24/7 care no problem so that she can stay comfortable at home!. She's not terminal or an invalid, it's just a lengthy process!. She currently gets SSI because she is normally a paraplegic (Birth defect) and I would normally get my income from working but this is not possible at this current time!. My dad helps me out by giving me a few hundred dollars a month but this can't go on forever, my dad isn't rich!. And we are young and want to continue our lives after she is well!. But for the meantime, is there a way that maybe I could get on government assistance to help out so its some guaranteed income!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Depends on the state you live in, but I know there are some places that will give "disability" (it's called different things different places) benefits to the caretaker!. I think it's great for you to stay by her side and care for her in this hard time; and it's amazing your dad helps out too (especially because you say he is not rich, that means he really loves you both)!. I would suggest you go online and type in "______(your state) disability benefits for caregivers" as the search!. It should direct you in the right direction at least!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Find a way for her to apply and call your local welfare office!. If you quit your job and are not disabled, it will be very difficult if not impossible for you to get assistance!.

Her disability can get her on assistance, but it's unlikely for you to qualify!. Since you are not yet married and are not her spouse, they are not legally obligated to administer aid to you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You could apply for and receive every possible assistance under the sun and get it!.If she receives SSI she is qualified for medicaid which would pay for Home health care!. That could give you some relief!. Also does you job have family medical leave!. They have to hold you job for you while you care for a sick loved one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should talk to local social services!. Perhaps there is a way for you to become her official caretaker and get some financial support that way!. Also, off your question, you could look for some telecommuting work that you could do from home to subsidize your income!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
