To start with your knees are what is called "Sublexing Kneecaps" The muscles are usually stronger on the outsie of your knee ( the quad muscles) This is not a true dislocation, and is very common in teenagers!. If you can put your kneecap back into place yourself, it IS NOT dislocated!. It has slidden out of the joint, but can be put back in!.

In a true dislocation, the kneecap will not slide back into the groove!. It is stuck (usually towards the outside) No amount of pushing or prodding, will put the kneecap back into place!. The only was this can be done is at the hospital!. It is a procedure called an MUA!. Manipulation Under Anesthetic!. Basically, just what it says!. The Dr puts you to sleep, and then puts your kneecap back into place!. It is extremely painful, and you definately won't be able to bear any weight on your leg for weeks!. There is afew surgeries to correct the problem!. One is called a Lateral Realease, which cuts the muscle (Quad) that's pulling the muscle off!.

So to answer your question, you did not dislocate your knee, you have sublexing kneecaps, which is very common!. Have your Dr or physiotherapist give you excercises to stengthen the muscles that surround the knee!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

the stablizer is a felt type of wrap for ur knee, if u had done something serious u wouldnt be able to walk on it, have u been to the dr!? there are many exercises u can do for ur knees, some stretches, leg lifts both sitting and standing maybe ur coach can show u some but ur dr can send u to therapy and they will show u the proper way to do the knee bends etc

the imoblizer is canvas with metal rods on the side some can be different only ur dr can decide which one u needWww@Answer-Health@Com

my legs and knees are my life,, i run marathons,, you should use an immobilizer for at least 3 weeks and stay off the leg for a while to give the knee a chance to heal!.!.running around just aggravates it!.!.!. exercises to strengthen the knee is easy,, just work on your upper thing muscles!.!. quads!.!. that's what my coach keeps telling me!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Okay my man you are talking to the knee master!.
One Have you seen an othopedic doctor !? Our PCP and ER doctors are lovely and great for when you have a horrible flu or your having a heart attack but lets face it they really arent the best when it comes to injuries!.
Your patella dislocating like that means there is an issue going on with your tendons and ligaments (Im sure you know that) There could be little tears in there !. Do NOT over use it the swelling is telling you okay there is something worse going on then you first thought!. Just because it popped back in means nothing!. Keep a knee brace on it (one with the little hole for the knee cap!. ) this will keep swelling down and prevent it from coming out again!. ICE REST AND ELEVATED WHEN SWOLLEN DO NOT USE!Www@Answer-Health@Com

i completely understand where you are coming from!. when i was 14 i dislocated a kneecap for the first time!. this continued until i was 18!. at 18 i accidentally (playing basketball) pushed my kneecap out of place again!. i have had to have almost complete knee reconstruction now!. what you have to remember is that every time your knee cap comes out of place the more likely it will slide out again!. you can try to take care of it with the immobilizer or ace bandages or physical therapy or a number of other things!. the best advice i would give you looking back on what i went through would be to get your knee checked out and do whatever he suggests to help take care of this problem before it gets worse!. it is extremely painful and you need to get it taken care of as soon as possible before it becomes a problem like mine did!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
