Stopped Smoking?!

Question: Stopped Smoking!?
Okay so ive not smoked now for two weeks!. I must say its been easy so far!. Last time I tried to quit and the time before I found it exstreamly difficult and ofcourse failed!. This time I havent had any really bad withdrawal symtoms and i've actually remained calm aswel as feel more at ease this time!. I started on Zyban atfirst till I had to stop taking it, and im now on patches!.

Myquestion is that some people have said I may get the cravings later on! Is this true!?

Surely the longer I manage without cravings etc the less likely I will get them!?

Any help from anyone would be appreciated!.
Thanks in advanceWww@Answer-Health@Com

Hi
I'm having exactly the same experience and I'm convinced it is because this time I REALLY want to stop!. There is nothing about smoking that appeals to me anymore (other than the fact that my body was addicted)!. I didn't feel like this in the past, I really missed smoking and was giving up because I knew I should rather than actually wanting to stop!.
The cravings won't get worse, I've gone 5 weeks now and in the last week I have noticed that I think about smoking less!.
The way to stay stopped is very easy!. NEVER have just one, because it is never just one as every smoker or ex smoker knows!.
Also you will start get some great benefits soon and that is an even bigger incentive to stay quit!. My skin, eyes and hair look so much better and the other day someone asked if I'd had some sort of plastic surgery as my skin looks so much better!
Good luck and well done!Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's different for everyone, and it's not always the same each time you quit!. I've stopped smoking around six or seven times in the past five years and it's never been the same twice!. If you don't think about it, or make too much of a big deal of it, you won't get cravings!. If you do get cravings, find something to substitute for it like gum or a quick salad, or try to distract yourself with something like housework or some stretching exercises!.

Another thing that might help you are cigars or mini cigarillo's!. Mini's are good because they have the full flavor of a proper cigar but they are small and cheap, you can light one up and take a few drags (which you don't inhale) and leave it for later!. They are quite strong so you might not want to finish the whole cigar in one go but the few puffs you take will be enough to get rid of your cravings for cigarettes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am a smoker myself and I believe I know when I can quit, I will when I am motivated strongly enough for quitting it!. people tend to look at smoking as some company that they enjoy so long as they feel lonely, so one needs some kind of motivation to depart from their favourite company and only another interesting company can make them feel so

I really appreciate you for taking the decision but quitting I guess is not so easy as long as you do not have a strong motivation for quitting, hope you have it with youWww@Answer-Health@Com

Smoking is part habit and part nicotine addiction, so you have two enemies to conquer when you quit!. The cravings generally subside after a time, but never entirely disappear!. That's the reason most folks backslide!. You just have to convince yourself that you are adding years to your life and life to your years, and that should help an occasional craving go away!. Too bad there isn't an organization called "Smoker's Anonymous" to call on if the desire really gets strong!. I wish you luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Good for you! Quitting smoking is the single most important move toward better health and longevity!. It is true that you can have cravings for at least a year after you quit, but cravings usually last about 5 or 10 minutes!. If you can ride it out, you'll be back in control in a matter of minutes!. Most of the time it will be easy, but even the tough times are manageable!. Remember, you are a very special person (I know you helped me before)!. The world needs people like you, so stay healthy!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well done for taking the big step in giving up!. glad to hear that you are so far finding it easy!. i gave up 2 years ago gone march and there are still times i think having a cigerette would solve my problems or help me calm down in certain situations!. then i come to my senses and the moment passes and i take pride in the fact that it did not beat me!.
big high five at you and all those ppl taking the big step in becomming smoke free!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I stopped 7 weeks ago ,after 40 years I was given a new tablet called CHAMPIX!. these stop the cravings ,they do nothing about nicotine replacement!. I take nothing for nicotine replacement!. However I have found quitting to be so easy, something I never thought I would say!. If you are getting on ok as you are fine and keep it up, if not speak to your Doctor about trying Champix!. good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

congrats keep it up
I stopped January 2003 and still at the odd time I think I could just do with a fag(ciggy)!. the craving will always be there but lessens as time passes!. However when you come off the patches use lower dose first this will help prepare your body to cope with no nicotine then the cravings may increase but stick it out!.
Keep going your doing wellWww@Answer-Health@Com

I have not had a cigarette for 18 months now!. I have no objection to people smoking around me!. However I do at times still feel the urge for a smoke!. I think if there were cigs around I probably would have one!.
I don't think you can ever stop being a smoker!. You just become a smoker who does not smoke!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Years ago my mom tryed the patches!. They helped but when something happened to get her mad she'd take the patch off, have a cigarrette, and start smoking all over again even more than she did before she started the patch!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've been smoke free for 6 months now!. the smell of a smoker now makes me want to be sick!. thing is, every now and again I really want one!. I think to myself 'I wonder if I would be sick if I had one', then I remember why I had to give up!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I st oped in January this year and still get cravings but its best to think positive be a head of your headWww@Answer-Health@Com

I quit about 6 months ago after reading this book, 'Allen Carr's Easy Way To Stop Smoking'!. He is an ex-chain smoker who developed a very clear understanding of the smoking addiction!. His approach is basically to debunk all of the common reasons smokers have for lighting up, leaving the reader with little desire to smoke!. This makes it easier to get through the physical withdrawal!. You might find this book helpful since it shows how to deal with the psychological side of the addiction, which is what we are left with after the physical cravings subside!.

And yes its true, you may struggle with cravings here and there for some time after quitting!. Even after withdrawing physically, the psychological side of the addiction can be quite powerful at times!. All you need is to be somewhat convinced of a reason to light up again and you could find yourself struggling with a craving!. The strategy that has worked for me which I got from the book is to reflect on the idea that is making me consider having a cigarette and challenge the validity of that idea!. Once the idea is debunked, the craving subsides and I feel in control again!. These cravings though have been relatively rare and getting through them has improved my confidence that I wont return to smoking!. I certainly wouldnt have gotten through them without Carr's strategies!. I'm sure you'd find his ideas helpful too!. Best of luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
