Sounds like you are getting a lashing on here and you are on here because you left your child in the care of an authority or body who is then responsible for your child whilst in their care and on their premises!. We chose to rehash our lives after our eldest was bullied so badly she was pushed in front of a car - but 30 other pupils saw nothing!. There were incidents on the premises and they ignored our attempts to get them to intervene!. So it spilled out into the road!.!.!.!.!

Our 6yr old came home after being threatened at school and his fingers bitten - his arm was bitten and he required anti-biotics for the subsequent infection!. He was terrified every Sunday when we got the uniform out ready for following morning!.

Our 4yr old at Reception class was hit on the nose by a house brick and she had the most awful spread nose and 2 black eyes, yet it took them 2hrs to contact us and I was only working 1/4 mile down the road!. There was building going on to extend the school!! It just confirmed to us that no one can look after our kids and care about them as much as we do!. I gave up my F/T job and I'm not a teacher to Educate At Home and they love it and we've just passed our inspection with flying colours!.

You are right to be concerned and you are hurt because someone has not protected your child and God I bet you want to bash them if you could ! Yr child spent time in the Emergency Room and may even have scar for life (I sincerely hope not)

Write to the school - even go and see if you can take a photo without their knowledge of course!. Did any of the friends see what happened!? Where was the teacher at the time, ask yr daughter !? Many leave the classroom - they are NOT supposed to but they do!. This is leaving your child unsupervised!. If an accident happened in yr own home of course you'd be mortified but at least you have the knowledge that it was an preventable accident!.

Bottom line is - Is the school negligant is someway !? Was the accident recorded in the accident book !? Could you get a copy!? I don't know how far you can go with this but I sense you want to do something!. Is it a knee jerk reaction though to someone/something hurting your child !? Can you get appt with Head and discuss the matter !? He won't know yr concerns until you voice them!. If you just want to prevent another child getting hurt then fine - if you are out for compensation then I think you are on thin ice sadly!. Keep a diary of all conversations and content and all correspondence you may get to use it later!. Right now yr daughter needs you!.

The fact they have not covered the corner today - well if they did then that in some way would just be confirmation that it was not safe in the first place !! Do you get where I'm coming from!. I'm on yr side believe it our not!. Protect yr kids at all costs!.

One other thing - if yr daughter was injured at home and is of a certain age the hospital do inform you that they are duty bound to inform social services and they may call later to check things out - so who are they going to inform because this happened at school !? The school needs to provide you a satisfactory explaination, keep digging until you get it!.

At the very least, in England, an accident report form should have been filled in (or, as someone else said, an Injury Book) so any pattern of recurring accidents can be seen!. There should be someone responsible for safety at the school; there certainly should be at at council level!.

Can you talk to the teacher in a friendly way and ask exactly how it happened, so that you can be happy in your own mind whether or not it was a pure accident!? It may be the teacher said 'Run around and jump', or it may be your daughter was sitting by the open window, and suddenly got upset or excited and jumped up (or, of course, an entirely different scenario!.)

If you still have a problem I suggest you talk to the headteacher (I'm assuming primary school - if secondary school you might want to go via the year or house head, or any teacher your child knows and you get on with, then headteacher!.)

Head of Governors could be the next port of call, or direct to your council's LEA people!.

I don't think the school's done anything wrong, provided the incident was recorded, and ideally someone's checked it's not happening regularly!. Accidents do happen, but there is a responsibility to report and monitor them!.

Hope your daughter's feeling better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you are that concernded you can go to the school and ask them to try and take some action so it doesn't happen in the future!. I am a parent and I understand kids have accidents!.!. You have a concern and I would go in and ask the school to do something about it!. Not every child has an accident like that but expressing it to them might ease you mind to some extent!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I along with millions of other children managed to make it through school without having the corners of windows covered!. Children have accidents!. Would you like us to live in a bouncy castle world with no corners or sharp objects!?
I'm glad to see that the other answers on here display common sense!. A pleasant surprise!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Take your daughter to your own doctor and let him have a look at her wound!. There should be an injuries report book at the school - this should have all the details of the said injury in it including time date etc!.

If you are not happy, sue the school!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes it sounds right!. Kids will get injured because they're kids!. So will adults for that matter!. It's called living!. You can't put bubble wrap on the whole world!. At least you didn't use the word 'sue' there though!. You get props for not attempting to go down that road!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

a) Accidents happen
b) Can you be bothered!? You sound like you can't or you'd have been on the phone to the school already instead of on here!.
c) What did the school say - though as above, it doesn't sound like you've called them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They're not going to cover the corner of windows because one child hits their head on it!. It was an accident, its not something that happens with regularity so they most likely aren't going to do anything about it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No! Taking that approach just contributes to the blame culture, the scourge of modern society!. Kids hurt themselves all the time!.!.it makes them stronger!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Blame and risk-averse culture!. There are always places children can get hurt, but we can't make everwhere risk free!. Accidents happen - it doesn't mean someone is necessarily to blame!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sorry to here about your injured kid!.

But I think if the school thought it was pratical to cover the window corners they would have done so immediately - at the most, it is their job and duty to protect the children, if they thought it could happen again, they would take steps to prevent it, especially as a lawsuit could be formed!.

Remember, kids are kids!. At home, if your child slipped downstairs and broke their wrist, it would just purely be 'one of those things'!. There is nothing you can do to make it safer for them!.
The same goes for the window at school!. Children are clumsey and careless and you can't protect them from evertyhing - you would have to wrap them in cotton wool!
I know it is tough when your kid comes home from school injured - you feel angry and let down and you worry what will happen next!. But accidents do happen and unless you have noticed the school is severely negligent in other ares, I would not press forward with any kind of complaint!.
Ask yourself, and answer honestly, if it were someone elses child who hit their head you wouldn't be as concerned (naturally) but chances are you would also put it down to 'one of those things' and 'kids being kids'!.
Good luck with what ever you decide and I hope little ones head is better soon!. They bounce back quick, you know :) xx

ps My toddler managed to climb out of his cot a few months ago - goodness knows how, there is nothing it it to use as a step and it was on the lowest setting!. Anyway, he succeeded and fell and cut his head on a toy car!. he too had to be glued at A&E the reason being that the scalp is one of those areas on the body that bleeds profusely, like the ear lobe!. Also, it is a way of keeping the wound clean - we know how dirty kids can get!
What I am saying is it is probably not as bad as it looks, though I bet you felt sick when you saw it!.

Maybe if you are really worried have a none confrontational, informal chat to the teacher, if anything to put your mind at rest!. It could be that new safety proceedures are to be put in place or they are intending to do something when the budget allows, your child may just not know!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Definately go to the school about it!. If they ignore you then you should take some legal action (like informing a local agency that checks the schools safety) because it's not just about your child, this could happen to loads of children!.

I think it's terrible, when I was at school the teachers would open the windows, they were the ones with no latches and just swung open, the children often were running along and smacked their heads against it!. But after a while they put this kind of gravel/uneven paving on the ground on the areas surrounding the windows, to stop this from happening!. And that was years ago before everyone had a high horse to get on!.

So they can definately do something about some window edges!. This should have been checked by some kind of safety agency surely!? If you are still ignored, take it to a local paper and shame them publically! Maybe then they will be ashamed enough to do something!.

I mean accidents happen but simple corners are easy to cover, it isn't that big of a job!. I think some of these answers are ridiculous with no sense of empathy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
