I have been blessed with scoliosis.?!

Question: I have been blessed with scoliosis!.!?
Measure 40 lumbar, 25 thoracic and these are prone xrays, so standing rays would show an increase in these numbers!. Just wondering what my chances are of getting the go ahead for surgery with these dergrees!. I have tried all other therapies with no relief!. I also feel like i am being crushed internally when i sit and feels like a obese monkey is sitting on my shoulders whenever I stand!. I also get really bad lower abdominal pains and that generally twisted uncomfortable feeling!. The surgeons keep telling me i am not a candidate for surgery as it hasn't progressed, but it doesn't need to progress, i am already in pain most hours of the day!. Any advice people!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
If the curve is small when first diagnosed, it can be observed with routine x-rays and measurements!. If the curve stays below 25 degrees, no other treatment is needed!. If the curve is between 25-40 degrees, a brace may be recommended!. If the curve is greater than 40 degrees, then surgery may be recommended!.

Talk with your surgeon about what other options are out there!.!.!.PT, pain clinic consult, bracing if you are still growing, surgery, etc!. The best doctors will try conservative therapy first, but also be willing to explore other options if a treatment is not working!. You may want to get a second opinion!.

You don't give your age!.!.!.Are you being treated at a Shriner's Hospital/Clinic!? In my opinion as a former patient and now a health care professional, it's absolutely the best place for scoliosis patients under 21!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Just going into surgery and put hardware to straighten out your spine may not be the best idea!. It may either help you or make it worse!. It's curved for a reason, as a compensation to the culprit that's causing it!. I would consult with another orthopedic specialist and determine what's causing it to curve in the first place!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

50+ degrees will be in need of a back brace and 60+ for surgery in a adult!. As the reason is unknown, then their is a chance that you can correct the problem with PT!. Most adult problems arise due to muscle spasms, or posture being incorrect!. I was diagnosed with scoliosis and kyphosis at 34, having been screened at school and passed that screening!. The reason was a acute onset lower back spasm that was left untreated for almost five months!. Due to the pain I was unable to walk upright, had to bend forward and shuffle the legs, thereby damaging mu thoracic spine!. The thing about the spine, it is held in correct position by the muscles and so if the muscle go into spasm, or you do not bother exercising are a couch potato, or slouch, then the muscle get weak and hey presto the vertebra move!. I started learning Pilate's, tough going to start with, just one hour a week and had to go to bed after the lesson, sore the following day, but then that eased!. Five lessons later and I was willingly to throw the towel in, too much pain! However I stuck it out for nine months and now feel better and my clothes hang so much better!. I also took up Aqua Jogging!. Now I do my Pilate's at home once a week, just for half an hour, just to keep all the muscles tight!. Best of LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com
