How can I avoid getting shin splints?!

Question: How can I avoid getting shin splints!?
Answers:
Try sitting down before you work out and sit with your knees at an angle (looks like a triangle)!. Put one leg over the other and spell the ABC's!.!.!. I mean act like you're writing the ABC's with your feet in the air!. After you're done, do the other leg!. I know that sounds weird but that's what my trainer in HS told me to do to stretch out the muscles around your shins!.
Also stand against a wall and start with your right foot against the wall at a 45 degree angle!. Move your body closer to the wall to stretch!. Repeat with other leg!. After your workout, run ice on each shin (I used to fill up dixie cups and freeze them, you can use them a couple times by tearing the cup down and refreezing them)!. I hope I've helped!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yep--she's right--stretch!. But warm up 1st---stretching cold muscles has been shown to be of minimal benefit!. So warm up slowly, stretch your calves and muscle on front of your shin (Tibialis Anterior)!. There are 2 types of shin splints--anterior (involving the Tibialis Anterior), and posterior (involving the muscles in your calves)---so stretch both areas!. Stretch the calves with your knee straight 1st, then with it bent--to get both "calf muscles" (Gastrocnemius AND Soleus)!. The number 1 cause of shin splints is overtraining, so use common sense, and stop running if you feel pain---listen to your body!. Ice afterwards is a must, too---like that girl above said!. Anyway, have a fantastic day, and feel better!Www@Answer-Health@Com
