I quit a half-pack/day habit about a month ago!. My chest actually feels worse on a daily basis now than it did when I was still smoking!. I wake up and my lungs burn and feel like I went on a smoking bender the night before!. It is slowly getting better though, and it will probably do the same for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm a smoker also, Hats off to you!. I never could stop or even cut down!. Be careful, I've heard of people coughing and spitting up things but never shortness of breath!. You might want to talk to a doctor or someone with medical training!. Or it might not be related at all!. Please call a doctor and good luck!. Keep up the good work, soon you will quit when you are ready!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The reason you are short of breath is that the cigarettes have narrowed the blood vessels feeding your lungs!. Most people know this may lead to lung cancer but you may be surprised to learn that smoking is also a leading cause of heart attack in people under 30!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had the same problem when I started to cut back in an effort to quit!. I used to smoke two to three packs a day for a little over a year!. Then cut down to one!. Then when I cut down to five cigarettes a day I noticed I had a much harder time breathing!. But I stuck with my goal and eventually quit a few weeks later!. A month after that the shortness of breath got better!. And now three years later my lung capacity is above average for my age!. So I'd say don't worry about it too much unless you start to black out because of it!. And try and stick to working that habit out of your life entirely!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
