Iam almost 60 yrs old and I need back surgery?!

Question: Iam almost 60 yrs old and I need back surgery!?
Iam almost 60 and I need back surgery!. I can get around ok , really pretty good but I have pain to deal with!. The operation has only an 85% rate of being successful!. Since I can get around ok , should I wait until I cant stand the pain anymore or take the chance of making things worse!. I will have to have the surgery some day Iam sure but should I take the chance now!. The doctor talked about putting in pin and screws and will have to fuse vertibras together with bone grafts!. Sounds pretty scary to me!. What would you do!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I wouldn't have the surgery yet!. I am 40 and had a fusion 3 years ago!. I still suffer from the same pain and now the discs directly above and below the surgery are bulging, causing added pain and more symptoms than before!. I now chew vicodins like the'yre m&m's and they don't touch the pain!.
The problem with this country (USA) is that the doctors make money on each operation they perform, so they recommend surgeries that will benefit themselves more than the patient!. Try a physical therapist, they will give you exercises to do that will strengthen the muscles around the affected area, adding some support and taking away some of the strain to it!. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

85% sucessful isnt bad!.!.!.!. esp given that a lot of back surgeries seem to not help people!.!.

a lot of people find fusions helpful but some find they didnt solve the back pain that they have!.!.!.!.

i think the older you get, the more riskier the surgery will be!.!.!. also the worse your back gets, the harder it will be to recover and sucess rate probably goes down as well!.!.!.!.

i think it's scary to make a decision to do surgery but i think if im in a lot of pain and still getting around, i wopuld try the surgety if it will likely improve my quality of life for now vs waiting until i can hardly move anym, ore and than it might not work because of my conditon!.!. or even if does!.!.!. i mean!.!. id ont know!.!. it's hard!.

Being 60!.!.!. you're up there!.!. that's goodyou can get around okay but dealing with pain is stressful to the heart and body so seems like thats a good reason to do it but i cant make that decsion for yoiu!.

Im 30!.!. im in chronic pain!.!. use a wheelchair 90% of the time!. I have tot ake morphine twice aday!.!.!.!. i think i would take the chance on the surgery if i had the chance to do so but if i were in m y same shape at 60, Im not sure !.!.!. i guess it depends on how active i am and what i expect for the remainder of my life expetency!.!.!. i happen to believe that any chance uou can get to be out of pain or lessen pain is pretty much worth it !.!.!.!.!.

but fusion is a hard long surgery and they can mess up although not likely!. I hvve a friend younger than me who they messed up on and she was in severe pain for another year!.!.!.!. she had to have it redone!.!. they removed the scews and all!.!.!. reput them in!.!.!.!. se is doing better npw bit stlll in a lot of pain!.!.!.!. so its all a risk!.!. however others i know had back surgery and they are doing great!.!. very happy with the results!.!.!.

I suppose if i would rather have the surgery if it could help my pain while i was moble because i think that if i waitedf until i couldnt get around, im goingt oi have to have surgery anyways and than i will be in worse shape!.!. and the pain will get worse to get to that point so why not take the chance now!?

don t know if im that helpful!.!. sorrry!.!.!.
