Can you drive after...?!

Question: Can you drive after!.!.!.!?
a complete hip replacement surgery!?
My dad had a hip replacement last week, and he's going nuts just sitting in the house so he's arguing with me that he's going to go somewhere!. I don't think he can drive until the doctor says it's okay, but he's swearing he can!. I feel like I'm the parent trying to keep the child in the house!.

Have any of you ever had a hip replacement and were you able to drive a week afterwards!?

He does his exercises so well that the doctor doesn't even have therapists come to the house, so he thinks he can do just about anything, and I'm worried!.

Thanks in advance!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

When my mother had a hip replacement, the doctor told her absolutely no driving for 6 weeks!. And he needs to be careful with what he's doing for a while otherwise he will probably end up disadvantaging himself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've had both hips replaced in separate surgeries!. One of the reasons that the doctor may not approve driving is when the patient is still taking pain meds that might impair judgment!. Just because he hasn't been approved to drive doesn't mean he can't go anywhere!. For heavens sake, drive him where he wants to go until his surgeon gives the "ok"!. He probably is bored!. I was when I started to feel better!. If his doctor has said he is ok to drive then don't argue!. However if he has been given a driving restriction (typical restruction would be anything up to 6 weeks), he shouldn't drive!. If he would be involved in an accident there could be a problem if he was driving while under a doctor's order not to!. You know, liability and all that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
