I'm sorry!.!.!.but you can get arthritis @ any age!! I thought it was a disease that older people got too until I was diagnosed with Juvenile Chronic Arthritis when I was 13!! It can occur @ any age!.
And yes,arthritis is for life!.
Has your doctor referred you to a reumatologist!?!? If not, make an appointment with one just in case,as they would be able to tell you for sure if you have arthritis or not!.
As for medication, different treatments work for different patients!. First,I was given 3 steroid injections into joints in my hand,to help calm down the arthritis a bit,but unfortunately, they didn't work!. I was then admitted into hospital and put on an IV of steroids, and something else which I can't remember!. I was then put on injections,Enbrel(Enbral!?) once a week!. These injections worked like a miracle for the arthritis, but I got terrible side-effects:dreadful headaches!. I was then moved to Humira injections!. These didn't work as well as the previous ones, and they gave me headaches too!. During this time,I was also on painkillers,anti-inflamatories and a reducing dose of steroids!. I was also on methotrexate!. I was eventually taken off of the injections, and I was put on an IV called Infleximab(or remicade,as its sometimes called)!. This is brilliant, and no terrible side-effects!! I am a bit tired after it,but I get over it!.
I am still going strong on this treatment, and I have been taken off the steroids, and on the anti-inflamatories when needed!.
Go to a reumatologist and they will know the right treatment for you,and they won't stop until they find a treatment that suits!.
Best of luck with it!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Arthritis can develop at any age!. It is not an old people's disease!. Yes, it can start in injured limbs!.
I started showing changes at 18 and they started in the joints near where I had sprains in the past!. They spread from there!.

Yes, Arthritis it is for life and it will get worse!.

When I have pain, I usually take OTC stuff!. It seems to work for me!.
Your best bet would be to see a specialist who specializes in arthritis for the best meds to take!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It stinks, but it's not uncommon!. Sounds like you had a pretty decent injury to your thumb, I would think what you are now dealing with his traumatic arthitis, which just means it's because of the trauma to the thumb!.

Good Luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
