Should I have back surgery?!

Question: Should I have back surgery!?
I've had problems with my lower lumbar for over 15 years!. Last month I tried a new treatment my mom bought for me online!. The TruBack, which is a sort of traction device you lay down on and it "works its magic"!. Well, I laid down on it the evening I got it, and the next day my back hurt so much I couldn't go to work!. That night I felt better and tried it again, since you're supposed to use it a few days!. The next morning the back pain was completely gone, but my sciatic nerve was bothering me!.
It started on my left leg towards the hip and shot down to my ankle!. Then it slowly moved down to my calf and my big toe started feeling numb!.
I got an MRI done and found that I had an extremely large herniated disk and now doctors want to operate!.
They say because it's only leg pain, it should be a pretty simple procedure!. But it's still scary!.
The herniated is about the size that the disk should be outside on the left side, which is why the pain on the left leg!. Still no back pain!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No one can tell you to have or not have any procedure!. That decision is entire between you and the doctor!. What can be said about the information that has been supplied is this!. The reason that the pain in the lower back left was that the herniation enlarged and moved against the L4/L5 nerve root!. Normally doctors don't do a procedure just for pain unless it is what is called intractable, strong pain that is not controlled by medications!. Now on the other hand since there is no discription of any loss of strength there is the possibility that a course of physical therapy would help!. There are many techniques available that would help move the disc material away from the nerves!. Talk to your doctor and ask for a trial period!. If it works then you have avoided the procedure and if it doesn't then have the procedure!. One other thing that must be added and talk to the doctor about this!. Studies show that people that last out a year without the procedure have the same if not better results than those that undergo a procedure!. Also remember that whether the procedure is done or not this area is always going to be suspect for future problems!. So ultimately the decision is up to you!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is your decision and if you don't feel comfortable; get a second opinion!. Doctors vary alot and you may feel more comfortable about the surgery if another doctor agrees!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am much better now and have pain when it rains, but i dont think thats the surgery, i think i now have arthritis !.!.good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com
