Question: MS or Benzo Withdrawal!?
I have been on ativan for over four years now!. I have tried tapering off twice this year and each time I got neurological symptoms!. The first time I had muscle spasms in my right forehead, hand and foot all at the same time, just about every time I moved!. I increased my ativan again just for the muscle relaxing properties and after a couple months that went away!. By the way, I did see a neurologist who did nerve conduction studies and an EEG, but found nothing!. I decided to start tapering again and now I've been dizzy and very off-balance for the past 2 or 3 weeks, also have double vision!. Has anyone else had any MS symptoms while trying to come off a benzo!? I know I was tapering too fast (taking away 1/4 mg every two weeks from a 4 mg/day dosage)!. Have you tried seeing a psychiatrist and asking for a detailed schedule on how to slowly taper off your benzodiazepine!? If you just design your own tapering schedule, you might be executing the taper process too fast!. Sometimes, they will prescribe an alternate medication which is not in the same class of drug you are taking so as to relieve your withdrawal symptoms!.
