Question: How long after getting my appendix out will i feel better!?
I am 16 and had emergency surgery yesterday morning to get my appendix out; i am now home and they told me it would be at least a week until they will release me to activities!. I was just wondering if anyone who has undergone the same procedure knows when i will start to feel less pain!. It doesn't hurt all that bad now, but my job is babysitting 4 kids and that can get rough seeing as how they love to wrestle; i have this whole week off but didn't know if I'd be feeling up to going back next week!. I had an appendectomy last December!. I had an open appendectomy instead of a laparoscopic appendectomy!. You did not specify which you had!. I am assuming you had the laparoscopic procedure done because the doctor said you may could start you normal activities in one week!. With an open appendectomy (have a five inch scar on my stomach from the incision) it takes alot longer to get over it because you have to allow the incision to heal!. You have to be careful not to put any strain on the incision site to keep it intact etc!. If you had an open appendectomy you will not be able to lift anything over 20 pounds for at least two to three weeks!. You are not allowed to drive for two weeks!. You have numerous restrictions!. It took me about two months to get my strength back!.It took about three months to get my appetite back!. I personally can't tell you how soon you will feel better with a laparoscopic procedure!. I am sure it will not take as long as an open procedure!. Just pace yourself!. Don't over do it!. Don't wrestle with the kids for awhile!. You are young and that is to your advantage!. My boyfriend had his out on June 27 and he had the surgery that gave him 3 small incisions!. The top two healed very well in a few days!. Its now over two weeks later and the bottom one is still sore because of his pants touching it!. ABSOLUTELY no lifting over 15 pounds or rough play for a few weeks!. You will get a hernia at the site of the incision if it is strained!. The area behind the scars will always be hard to the touch!. The only major problem he saw for more than a week was severe constipation because of the painkillers that they gave him!. If you had the surgery with the one large incision you will be down and out for more like a month!. Hope this helps and hope you feel better soon!Www@Answer-Health@Com
