I developed a bulging disc between lumbar 4 and 5 by running too much on the jogging trail!. I'll tell you what I did!. You'll have to decide what is applicable in your case!.

1) My chiropractor recommended taking daily doses of 100 mg!. of Vitamin B6!. It strenghthens nerves!. I noticed an improvement in 4 to 6 weeks!.

2) The lunge exercise is good for sciatic conditions!. An example is at the bottom of this site:

3) I bought the Teeter inversion table!. You can invert yourself partially or completely for spine decompression!. It feels great!.
It costs a few hundred but I like it!.

Hello,

I'm sorry about your Husband's trouble!.

I'm not sure whether you mean by "his X ray was clear," - - that his MRI scan was clear!. MRI scanning does not involve X-rays!.

By 'sciatica' or 'sciatic nerve pain,' most people mean pain shooting down the back of the leg, - - with or without symptoms in the anus, bladder, muscles in the leg, or skin in the leg, which indicate that the function of the sciatic nerve on that side is being interfered with!.

This is supposed to arise from something hard, like a slipped back disk, pressing on the sciatic nerve roots in the back!. But once the problem has started, the back muscles themselves tend to go into spasm, pulling the spine-bones together onto the nerve roots!.

The other possible treatment to surgery, is what is called 'Traction,' that is to say having the lower spine stretched out passively, by a weight being hung on it!. Stretching the spine, pulls the spine bones apart, away from the nerve roots between them!.

This traction can either be a weight attached to the leg or pelvis, over a pulley as the patient lies in bed, - - or the patient can use his or her own weight by hanging backwards over a traction board, (for a short time)!.

I hope this is of some help!.

Best wishes,

Belliger (retired uk gp)Www@Answer-Health@Com
