I am so ashamed, please help!?!

Question: I am so ashamed, please help!!?
I have a stutter and it makes me feel inadequate, silly and ashamed!. Can anybody help with a cure or way of reducing it drastically!. At work I find it hard to speak on the phone or in meetings and once at Schiphol Airport I was nearly arrested because the Customs Officer thought I was on drugs!. Sometimes I speak really well but other times I can't speak virtually at all!.

Thank you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you're in UK, your doctor should be able to refer to a NHS speak and language therapist in your area, you may have to wait a while for your appointments and there are strict rules that you don't miss appointments but at least it's the first step towards getting help!.

No need to feel silly or ashamed, everybody stutters sometimes, I have sometimes found myself saying the last word of a sentence twice for some reason, usually when I'm nervous or tired! Take deep breaths even if you have to say one word at a time!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Do not feel ashamed because you stutter!. The people who should feel ashamed are people who may mock!. The way I've heard of is not to focus on it too much as putting yourself under pressure increases the problem!. Learn to live with it and maybe make a joke of it!. I'm 42 and have a high pitched voice--I joke that it's because I'm still in my youth, and people then relax with me as well knowing I'm comfortable with it!.
It is hard and gets me down, but I have to accept these are the cards life has dealt me and there are many, many people worse of than me!.
People are, on the whole, understanding so do not feel any shame!. As I say feel pity for the sad minded idiots that may mock!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The cheap version is to check out some books from your library on stuttering and how to help reduce it!.

The more expensive version is to go to a speech therapist!.

Also, don't concentrate on your stutter, and don't worry about it either!. It is nothing to be ashamed of, and your friends probably don't really notice it!. I have had a lot of friends with speech impediments, and it didn't bother me!Www@Answer-Health@Com

It must be difficult but there is no reason to feel inadequate, silly or ashamed!. It would be worth thinking about when are the times you can speak better!.!.!. are you more relaxed then!? If so try and relax yourself before a meeting ie deep breathing!. If you are really concerned go see your doc they will refer you to someone!. It might take a while so if you want to see someone quicker book and pay to see a speech therapist yourself!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

It may be caused by your lack of confidence!. You lose your confidence everytime you stutter in public!. Maybe you could try standing in front of a mirror and speaking aloud so that you could practice your communication skills and feel good about yourself!. Or you might also want to see a speech therapist!.

Good luck! :-)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Try singing , it has been found that stutterers don't stutter when they sing, then practice training mind and mouth to believe you are singing while speaking slowly enough not to sound as if you are!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

People who stutter do not stutter when they are talking to animals!. Pretend your audience is at obedience school!. Look at a goldfish bowl when you are talking on the phone!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
