Yes, you can continue using the patches!. I used the nicotine lozenges for about two years after I quit, then used Chantix to get off them!.
Effects -- nicotine stresses the cardiovascular system!. The best I can figure by looking at the rates for chewing tobacco is that a steady dose of nicotine will maybe double your risk of heart attack!. Obviously, the older you are the more of a risk that is!. Overall risk is of course much lower than cigarettes!.
I wouldn't hesitate to keep using the patches as long as you need to!. They're *always* better than relapsing and smoking!.
Since one of your withdrawal symptoms is depression you might want to consider Wellbutrin/Zyban!. It's both an antidepressant and a stop smoking med!. Your doctor can advise!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think you should talk to your doctor if your not feeling good mentally as I know a friend who got really depressed while getting treatment for her nicotine addiction!.
By the way, congratulations on your decision to quit, i admire your courage hopefully one day i'll get that courage too :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't smoke but sometimes I'm not mentally too good so don't think it always has to do with that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
